What was your first Smartphone?

Are we talking smartphones as in PDA-phones as well? The idea of a PDA-phone is that it rolls a PDA with phone capability, along with a touch screen and internet access and the ability to install 3rd party apps.

My 1st PDA-phone was the Sony-Ericsson P910i in June 2005. It had the Orange app store and I remember buying Worms (PC game) for it for £5 and it played pretty well. The downside is that the game was tied to the handset, so I couldn't carry it over to my next phone.

If we're talking strictly Android, iOS or Windows, then it was my Samsung Galaxy Apollo (Orange's name for the Samsung Galaxy 3) in June 2010.

Think it could be classed as smart phone, Ericsson P900. Symbian was pretty limited though in terms of apps.

I replaced it with a HTC TyTn II which was deffo a smartphone and the keyboard was a thing of beauty.

Samsung Omnia . Windows mobile and a really bad touchscreen. Looked like it was space age compared to the se Walkman phone it replaced but was poor really.

Had an early android phone but can't remember what it was , iPhone 4 was probably the first one I thought "wow" about . The 'retina' screen just looked so good at the time

I had the HTC Wildfire. It was small and hard to use. Was recommended to me by Three. I sent it back and swapped it for the Galaxy S. It was an eye opener of a phone for me. Loved it.
Same here, I got it as a birthday present from my parents and to this day I feel guilty about how disappointed I was with it. It could barely run angry birds and web browsing was slow as hell. Got myself a Nexus 5 few years later and it was mind blowing how good it was.

Nokia 6600
Yeah, I had one of these. I remember going to America in maybe 2003 or 2004 (they were so far behind in their phone tech back then) I remember someone in one of their tech shops being amazed by it

I used to update my Sig on XDA with the different phones I'd used as main devices, which paints the picture of 'proper' smartphones I had -

HTC Universal > HTC TyTn II > HTC Touch HD > HTC Hero -> HTC Nexus One -> Samsung Galaxy S -> HTC Desire HD -> HTC G2 -> Samsung Nexus S -> Samsung Galaxy S2 -> Samsung Galaxy Note -> Galaxy Nexus -> HTC One X -> Samsung Galaxy S3 -> S3 LTE -> HTC One -> Galaxy S4 -> Galaxy Note 3 -> Galaxy Note 4 -> Moto G -> Nexus 5, 6 & 6P -> Note 5 -> Pixel XL -> Pixel 2 XL -> Galaxy Note 9 -> Huawei Mate 20 Pro -> OnePlus 7 Pro -> Pixel 4 & OnePlus 8 Pro

Google G1, was a cracking bit of kit too

Orange SPV if were going that far back for non android phones

And that nokia edge thing?

more recently...

P20 Pro > P30 Pro > Pixel 6a > P30 Pro> Pixel 7a > P30 Pro

Orange SPV maybe 2002? Worst phone I’ve ever had.

Honestly, 11/12 year old me desperately wanted the Orange SPV. It looked revolutionary.

I suppose the answer would/should be the iPhone 3G but prior to that I had some fully featured phones. My Sony Ericson W960i was the phone I had before getting the iPhone. It had a stylus, touch screen, could access the internet and a whopping 8GB onboard storage. I'd argue that my N-Gage wasn't quite a smart phone but it wasn't miles and miles away

LG Prada , don't know if anyone remembers that one.

My friend had that in college. Blew me away at the time and sold me on touch screen devices. Then another friend bought the Samsung version of it... Samsung Tocco maybe? I had my W960i but as soon as the iPhone 3G was available I went out and got it. I looked so stupid as a teenager with 2 contracts going on at once but I was desperate for the iPhone.

I had so much fun showing my friends cover-flow, full 3G unlimited internet with the built in YouTube app, a real "who needs TomTom" GPS even though turn-by-turn instructions weren't yet here.

What a time to be alive. You forget how out of the world these smart phones were when they first released. Now even a sub £100 budget phone can do pretty much everything.
