currently I have a £400 sieko premier which i have had for around 18 months
I went through the same selection process this time last year and was also coming from a Seiko watch.

I went for the black Omega Seamaster 300M.
I also looked at the Omega Speedmaster but wanted a watch that was simple, clean and uncomplicated and the Seamaster is absolutely perfect.

For Omega - The historic space achievements and official Olympic timing involvement since 1932 make the company really appealing.

Got my first G-Shock a few weeks ago. Really nice watch apart from first setting it up takes ages because it does it all (timezones, alarm etc) via the analogue hands which can take a long time.

But the same could be said for other watchmakers, one that I definitely know of is Longines who were timing Olympics long before any Omega in 1896. Granted there is no space achievement involved but that just means Omega won the contract for that objective :p

Details like that aren't necessarily ones to give a definitive "yes I will have this watch because in the past they timed the Olympics or sent a completely different watch into space" - Go on the merits of the watch you want to buy, not the merits of watches using different movements from different eras.

I have a PRW-3000T, great watch. Comfortable and elegant, with a bit of a nerdy twist.

Not a fan of the PRW-5000/6000, rather have digital over analogy and they are very bulky.

Thanks, I think I will go for the PRW-3000.

I really like the look of the watches in the Casio Aviation range, maybe I'll get one in the future :)

See that's a fine example of a good merit. You went on about space and Olympics which let's be honest, has nothing to do with the Seamaster :p

History is a strange thing; it seems to become more relevant as you get older.

I think it's cool if you tell me this actual watch actually went into space, or worn by X or Y Olympian during Z Olympics.

Telling me the brand went into space is like telling me I should treasure my mug more because the factory also made a batch that they use in the cafeteria at NASA. It's a very tenuous connection at best.

I agree some what, but history does have a value though. At worst it's a talking point.

It's very similar to Ferrari, Porsche (& others) convincing people that their road cars are descendants from their top level racing cars. People do buy into this marketing.

It'd be the Seamaster for me, but seriously unless you desperately want a 2014 model go to Watchfinder and get one from there on 0% finance, saving yourself £1000:

http://watchfinder.co.uk/Omega/Seamaster 300m/212-30-41-61-01-001/0/item/41386
That is the Quartz version though.

I got mine from Swiss Watches Direct for £2200. The downside to this option is no interest free finance from the vendor but you could stick it on an interest free CC for a short period.
The latest model (212.30.41.20.01.003) does improve on some areas over the pre 2012 watch.
