What's your take on bidets/bum sprays?

I went to a tiny town call Matsushima, about 25miles north of Sendai in Japan. Got off the train at this station and went into the loo and was greeted by one of these.

Some of them have a drying function too.

Yes that one has drying too, the bar on the wall is the control panel.

Also the seat warmed.

Tissues and wet wipes seem enough to be honest.
my parents always have a supply of the moist wipes......... not doubting their effectiveness but (and i cant say i have looked into it so may be wrong) but they do not seem very biodegradable to me so personally steer clear - I did bury my environmental concerns for a few years when we had a baby but i felt bad doing it tbh - but then in reality the water wipes were the least of the environmental impact things we did when we had a baby!.

if you are worried about hygene perhaps the old T pot idea used in some countries is better as a cheaper practical solution.

I noticed a couple of people have commented on this thread about using wet wipes, I guess a number of people are flushing these down the toilet which is leading to these blocking issues.
There are flushable "wet wipes".

i did a google expecting to dispute the flushable / biodegradable claim from andrex

but actually it seems legit.

That's fair enough. A quick Google and I see Severn Trent water have endorsed/approved these being flushed. I was going to say it's not the first time a manufacturer has claimed something that isn't quite true :)

Yep did exactly the same, as we've had "flushable wipes" in the past which the water companies have said weren't actually flushable.

I love how the majority of posters in here are coy even about where they live, yet are very eager to go into the minutiae of their toilet habits...

I favour the cleanliness of a bidet, there was already one in the bathroom when I bought this place, so I gave it a go and found it to my liking, even one of my peafowl approved.

Yeah I have learnt something today. I remember a Watchdog episode years ago basically saying all of the flushable claims were nonsense.

Where is your foot washer to get rid of all of the poo and wee particles you collect from that carpet?

Each to there own I’ve lived in houses with them and without them and never felt compelled to use them but I can see why others might.

Loving the ridiculous list of non sensical comparisons unless of course you are regular using your bum for food preparation or to feed yourself them there is no earthly reason to keep it as clean as your hands!

Be interesting to see what the cost of living crisis does to lots of our most hygiene standards I can see the daily shower being cut back massively once the cost of energy kicks in this winter for example!
I need to wash my hair every other day or daily when we had the heatwave. As my hair feels grim.

carpet on the bath... there is something i have not seen for a few years!..... that said in the current times am sure the insulation will help. With my lads** aim however carpet in a bathroom is never going to be on the cards.

** I will let him take the full blame here, i take no responsibility at all ;)
