When the Gpu's prices will go down ?

Well yeah - those are asking prices, it doesn't mean they are selling. I have had quite a few things on watch recently and it's interesting to see what isn't shifting. Maybe there's a bit of a Mexican standoff at the moment on eBay but I'm sure a tipping point will come.

To be honest, I'm just being stubborn and don't want to overpay out of principle. I'd like to go to 1440p really but until then, I'm doing OK on 1080p and the 970 will still run pretty much anything at that resolution. :)
You're doing the right thing. I've been at 1440p for 10 years and they are still talking about needing top end GPU's for high refresh rate AAA. The resolution above everything else determines how much you need to spend on the rest of the PC. I would like to go to 4K but I know it will leave me constantly chasing performance again. I'm happy to stick to midrange and drive 1440 relatively easily without being tempted into the high end GPU's.

Tbf you're right, it does. Dropped back to Ultrawide from 4k myself, it seems a comfortable mid-ground and not having to push the boat out hardware-wise just to get decent (100+ fps) performance in 4k.

Why is it so low? Is that after taxes and average cost of living expenses?

It's so low because the average bloke earns crap.
We need to remember we're a privileged group compared to most customers, which is why I keep harping about both players shafting the mass market ($200-300) and failing to provide better performance per dollar there.

What's the point of delaying if no one is buying the old stock anyway.
think its better just to reduce price and just get rid of excess stock than just hold on to it , delaying will help get rid of more what happens to the excess stock when new gen comes out ?

Well why aren't OC passing on this rate?

Just checked the 3080s now, lowest price one available is £779, that's no where near what that article states nor even at MSRP!!

We sold all our cheaper 3080 10G stock, re-buys have increased slightly from the lowest points, as such were not really buying more 3080 10G now until they either come down further, but most board partners have increased the pricing due to sales been too strong, we did sell around 600 3080 10G in less than a week whilst we had the Asus under £700, so the sales demand is strong.

Our focus going forward will be more on the 12G model in coming weeks which are still available to order around £750 and are selling well.
AMD cards are still aggressively priced, the 6900 XT at £749 is now selling really quickly as is the rest of the stack.

wow sales still looking good surely none of these will want to upgrade to next gen so soon , will be interesting what the availability will be like for the next gen now more people seem to have cards

Let's try a twist from a classic selection riddle:

High Resolution
High Framerates
Ray Tracing
"Ultra" settings
Price of your PC being close to the median (not average!) net salary of a OECD country, basically this divided by 12: https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/median-income-by-country

Pick 3.
Don't think this makes sense unless you only look at top countries. If I take, let's say, Hungary as an example then it would fit a PC for just "ultra settings" because I could lower the res & fps low enough for it to qualify, but 3 criteria? Hell naw. Also "high res" would require clarification, for example would 4K DLSS be considered high res and if so at what quality level, i.e. DLSS Ultra Performance vs Quality vs others etc. In fact, I'd also say the same for high fps, because what qualifies? Is it across the board or does it have to be in the games I care about? Etc.

Could be a fun exercise but you have to flesh it out more. Right now it would pretty much default to: ignore ray tracing, pick a western European country, and make an AMD build.

£750 and strong sales, not surprising still given the nature of PC hobby, but surprising at the current time with new gen coming, new games not being great atm, and cost of living.

You never know, that £750 might look good in a few months time. Tough sell though to shell the best part of a grand for 2 year old tech. Good sphincter control required.

Thanks for the info.

Any idea when this is coming in: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/msi-...dr6x-pci-express-graphics-card-gx-38h-ms.html ?

See, salary defines what you can afford. I'll take Italy as an example, higher than Hungary but not exactly prosperous anymore.

Budget: 1000-1200€.

I will arbitrarily start with the cheapest new gen card you can find excluding the very bottom of the barrel: RX 6600 at 320€

Now we have 880€ for everything else:

i5 12400: -232€
cheap b660 MB: -170€
16GB of cheap DDR4: -90€
cheap 1TB SSD: -100€
decent 600W PSU: -70€
Adequate cooler: -65€
Windows: -100€
Cheap case: -50e

With that configuration you get

- Within Budget
- High FPS at 1080p ultra
- Barely playable FPS at 4k ultra, decent at 4k medium or with an upscaler

Complicating the exercise won't help much, just remember that not so long ago 320€ bought you a top of the line card.

But remember this is mostly proud Nvidia who seldom reduce the old gen to make room for the new fearing it would destroy their premium image. Intel behave similarly.

Thing is they might have a point: certainly every time a Zen gen has come out, people compare it to the previous gen's fire sale. So while we all know that Zen3's prices were an increase, on deal sites etc. posters usually compare fire-sale Zen2 to Zen3's list price which isn't very fair.

Nvidia's brand managers probably would prefer to write this inventory off than reduce the prices.

The obvious alternative is to launch 4000 now or ASAP, and keep the current excess inventory to sell later or rebrand. But in the finanicial results would the unsold will then appear as stock in hand and be counted as profit?
