When the Gpu's prices will go down ?

If nvidia scrimp on 4080 performance like they did with the 2080 then I'll just skip this gen like I did with Turing or maybe see if AMD can offer something better in that price bracket which wasn't an option when Turing released.

I'm expecting RDNA 3 to match/beat nvidia on rasterization front so can't see nvidia holding back too much there, however, given the lack of leaks on rdna 3 RT and amds comment of "rt is more advanced than rdna 2", if rdna 3 barely matches/beats ampere RT, nvidia will probably withhold RT perf. as they are comfortably superior/ahead as is.

RT is the main thing that stops me from going to amd, well that and also FSR 2 still not being quite there yet in terms of IQ (ghosting + temporal stability issues) as well as selection of games.

Assuming Nvidia launch next-gen first, I hope AMD at least make some sort of announcement about how their next gen cards will perform.

I'm willing to wait for AMD if they have something worth waiting for and they don't make me wait too long.

I want another 50% (or more) over my 3080Ti for my VR sims, but I don't want to push power much further than the 400+W my FTW3 space-heater-edition is pulling now.

What I want may not even be possible with next-gen, but if they both offer the performance and one of them dumps far-less heat into my room, that could close the deal for me.

I think it will be close but we will have to see how much they want for that 50% more. The power envelope will be interesting too.

3090ti prices now $1000 under launch

Yes for USA customers only, check the EU site 2k euros still for most and rest not much cheaper. That's EVGA showing its true colours again, totally not caring about the UK and EU market now.

The fact they can slash prices by $1000 shows just how much consumers were being ripped off at the original prices.

No they just want to look like angels in the USA market, while still ripping UK and EU customers off to make up the difference lost in USA, they are making the UK and EU customers pay 2k euros for the same card that's $1150 for USA customers, so we are basically making up the losses they maybe making there with our silly prices on their site. EVGA I'm done with now for good.

Remember that it costs them money to store those cards and they likely want the warehouse space for the 40 series cards. Further they'll instantly lose a lot of value once the 40 series is launched so it may be a case of minimising their losses. I think this is a big sign that the 4000 cards are imminent. I would expect a paper launch near the end of the month.

Still waiting for the flood of cards and prices to fall or something...

Even in this forums members market someone is selling a 2060 for like £20 under what they cost brand new

then another guy selling a 3070FE thats a year old almost for about the same £20 discount over what they should cost new

How can second hand cards hold value so much they are the same price as new? You'd think new cards have a risk of exploding or something and your paying someone else for taking the risk

It takes time for inventory to build but eventually, Gibbo will no doubt post the fire-sale thread for the 3090 series.

The Nvidia 4xxx performance rumours are much stronger and clearer this time around than they have been for previous launches. Even alpha silicon performance was leaked because it was so fast. 4070 cards producing 40tflops at stock boost clocks will turn the 3090tis into paperweights overnight for many. There could be a rug-pull at the last minute in terms of the performance leaks but it feels different this time.

The only back-track from the earlier hardware development process appears to have been to slow down the memory clock speeds at tad, I would guess to keep the power draw and heat in check.

We have not seen a performance jump like this at the xx70 series level in a while and that is why, I think the 3090ti's have seen the steepest cuts first, it is the card (3090 series) that has been in decent supply all the way through this dumpster fire of a generation and there is plenty of them left because the gouging has been the biggest, it is where the margins have been the juiciest.

When the 3070 was released the reaction was positive but lukewarm, this 4070 release could be like the 2nd coming, if the leaks are accurate. It could be the card that saves Nvidia's reputation with the hobby crowd.

Does Nvidia really want to be seen to be selling 2k cards one month, only to be flogging 500 quid cards with the same performance in a few months? The answer is no, a 50% haircut on new is acceptable historically and this is why the 3090 cards have been cut to $1150 USD. because, most likely the 4070 will come in at around 600 USD/600 GBP.

The 2k eur per 3090 carriage gravy train is about to crash into the cheapy-cheapy 4070 series release.

There is much bad blood between enthusiasts and nvidia right now but I think that will dissipate overnight once the 4070 breaks cover. EVGA on the other hand, I think their brand has been permanently damaged in these forums for the long term, whether Joe Bloggs gives a damn (or, indeed EVGA does) is another thing. It is a masterclass of how not to manage, what was, a solid U.S brand overseas.

you know what, gamers are a fickle bunch, they are used and abused by companies, but you know what even after all that they queue up like sheep for the new generation with their arms out stretched saying take my money, and this is why these companies dont give a toss how gamers feel about them
this coming generation these companies will need gamers more than ever, due to mining crash, and they know those gamers will be there

Sounds like you're describing addicts ;)

though define addicts i guess, cant see many gamers dying from lack of fps  i guess you can get addicted to the high of buying a new gpu for many reasons

It's strange that most people who moan about Nvidia have an Nvidia card in their signature. I moan about Nvidia myself but i don't contradict myself by buying one.

That's a flawed argument that's been around forever online. If anything, owning a product gives you more of an opportunity to be critical of it as you have first-hand experience.

Oh so its their first Nvidia card?

Why would that change anything? Many users on here will have had a negative experience with both AMD and nVidia products in the past and complained about them. Does that mean they can't own another of their cards in the future or if they do, they are no longer allowed to be critical of their business practices?

I'm critical of Nvidia but the only decent card I could find at the time for the money was the 3060TI FE. If AMD had had a similarly priced product I would have bought one instead.
