Still waiting for the flood of cards and prices to fall or something...
It takes time for inventory to build but eventually, Gibbo will no doubt post the fire-sale thread for the 3090 series.
The Nvidia 4xxx performance rumours are much stronger and clearer this time around than they have been for previous launches. Even alpha silicon performance was leaked because it was so fast. 4070 cards producing 40tflops at stock boost clocks will turn the 3090tis into paperweights overnight for many. There could be a rug-pull at the last minute in terms of the performance leaks but it feels different this time.
The only back-track from the earlier hardware development process appears to have been to slow down the memory clock speeds at tad, I would guess to keep the power draw and heat in check.
We have not seen a performance jump like this at the xx70 series level in a while and that is why, I think the 3090ti's have seen the steepest cuts first, it is the card (3090 series) that has been in decent supply all the way through this dumpster fire of a generation and there is plenty of them left because the gouging has been the biggest, it is where the margins have been the juiciest.
When the 3070 was released the reaction was positive but lukewarm, this 4070 release could be like the 2nd coming, if the leaks are accurate. It could be the card that saves Nvidia's reputation with the hobby crowd.
Does Nvidia really want to be seen to be selling 2k cards one month, only to be flogging 500 quid cards with the same performance in a few months? The answer is no, a 50% haircut on new is acceptable historically and this is why the 3090 cards have been cut to $1150 USD. because, most likely the 4070 will come in at around 600 USD/600 GBP.
The 2k eur per 3090 carriage gravy train is about to crash into the cheapy-cheapy 4070 series release.
There is much bad blood between enthusiasts and nvidia right now but I think that will dissipate overnight once the 4070 breaks cover. EVGA on the other hand, I think their brand has been permanently damaged in these forums for the long term, whether Joe Bloggs gives a damn (or, indeed EVGA does) is another thing. It is a masterclass of how not to manage, what was, a solid U.S brand overseas.
