Well, apparently 1080P upscaled to 8K is the new best thing since sliced bread. (Don't generally like pre-sliced bread, but I must be in a minority there or the idiom doesn't work.)

Half 8K ultrawide monitors I'm interested in .. everything else 8K related no thanks.. I don't have space for a 150"+ screen to see any benefit from it at seating distances that are normal for UK homes.

any audio products that are THX certified sound trashy (speakers, headphones etc) and since i discovered that I now believe in staying away from anything with THX branding

It really depends on the product, but agree THX went down a silly route with allowing anyone almost to stick THX on their products and made the whole standard a bit meeh and diluted its worth over time. BUT there is some very good THX products out there too, just need to not fall for the THX branding and justify the product on its on merits.
