When the Gpu's prices will go down ?

My 3060ti is just not cutting it at 4k or even 3840x1600.
For the last year it has done amazing at them resolutions with dlss and medium to high settings, but it's recently fell off a cliff and looking at ue5 games I think it's time to move it on.

I tried a 7900 xt and didn't gel with it or rather fsr was terrible.
So my only option is 4080 or 4090 as I wouldn't get a 12gb card right now.

I just can't justify 1.1k to 1.5k for 4hrs a week gaming, what to do, what to do.
I am in the same boat as you, sold my 3060ti for £250 while I still could and if 4080's get under a grand I'll buy one to offset the difference, paying with finance say like 12months bnpl is the only was I will justify it. Under £100 a month I can do but I'm not paying it all at once as Ill forever see it as a rip off lol.

Never buy a card on finance. Always have the money saved up is my advice. Not worth the risk unless you’re desperate need of a gpu for work etc.

Easier thing to do is get a credit card with long 0% interest on purchases, you just need to be strict with yourself and use it for nothing else. I did the same with a 4090 and had it paid off within about 4 months. Of course there’s a risk in everything finance related.

You should probably downgrade to 1440p monitor.

4k barely adds anything in terms of fidelity, but it increases GPU requirements exponentially. There is no "value" in 4k for sure.

I always thought that. I had a 4K monitor 160hz and honestly couldn’t tell any difference between that and a 2k high refresh ips version from the same manufacturer. My 3090 at the time struggled to get past 120fps in most games at 4K.

Think it only starts making sense if you playing on 42 inch plus ? Like 27 / 32 inch at 4K doesn't seem worth it

It looks like there are a lot of 6950s still in stock, so increasing the 6800xt price may make them look more appetising as the gap is so close. Although they are far too power hungry from my perspective, it would need a significant drop in price to justify replacing the PSU as well.
The problem with the 6900 XT and even more so the 6950 XT, is that out of the gate it is overclocked.
Theoretically, eventually an underclocked 6900XT should be able to get perf/watt closer to a 6800 or 6800 XT as a wider chip running slower can be efficient.
The bonus then would be that you get a cooler and power delivery engineered for a 350W rather a 220W card.

However, power spikes on the 9xx / 9x cards can be scary, so on a moderate 650W (yes, 650W can be considered moderate nowadays!) you would want be 100% sure that any power tuning will always stick. Didn't miners used to use custom BIOS files?
That's what it would take to get me to consider a 69x0 XT card.

I've got a 42" lg oled on my desk and it's epic, normally use it in ultrawide 3840x1600.
I don't think I could possibly downgrade now, but I've dropped myself in an expensive gpu cycle.

That's good advice, personally I'm pretty happy to game at 1440p but for anything else it's not ideal.

As I'm not buying a 4090 it's a fairly moot point what my preference is when I can't/won't realise it, maybe in two or three more generations... Who knows maybe pricing sanity will have returned by then too.

That's exactly what I did.
I was up for a 4080 this generation, but in the end I concluded I was just not prepared to pay NVIDIA prices, so I bought a 1440p monitor instead. No regrets. 1440p is great for games and so fast and fluid compared to 4K. I still use a 4K monitor, but for business type apps and browsing.

My next monitor will very likely be a 32" 1440p. Currently I have a cheap 1080p Samsung of the same size but honestly that's stretching a little too much and in the meantime prices have been going down on monitors...

lets hope you don't need to lock it to 60 fps to stop the physics going haywire

I have the feeling they might fix that, but then again I have no problems running Fallout 4 or Skyrim at 60FPS either. I don't really need 120FPS in a Bethesda game. There is a Fallout 4 Anniversary edition being released with improvements in the next few months:

But a lot of reviews didn't know how to test Fallout 4 properly - it was the high drawcalls in settlements and the tons of NPCs which pushed CPUs.

What I am hoping is finally Bethesda optimises the engine for Zen based CPUs.
