I did pre-order the PS4 but none of the exclusives really made me think "wow that looks like something I want to play". Changed my mind after seeing the E3 Conferences, Seen a few exclusive games in the line up which looked great.

That said I will be buying a PS4 within 1 year of release.

Wont be buying either until 6-9 months after launch, see how the land lies then.

At the moment, just down to what my mates are thinking, and generally being used to Live, im leaning slightly towards the Xbox One.

One thing that affects me is where the Xbox Live service is available upon launch. Gibraltar is not officially supported...yet.

Xbox One for me, really like the look of DR3 and they have a deal on BF4 DLC so atm that's swayed it for me.

Going for xBox One myself, I just have a feeling in the long run its going to be a more complete system over the years.

Xbox One for me as well, prefer the exclusives, mainly Forza and Halo. Still much prefer the xbox controller layout with the left analog being higher up.

Will be getting both at some point. Definitely getting Xbox One on release date. Feel it has the better launch games mainly Dead Rising 3 and Forza 5. Interested in Ryse as well. Only thing on PS4 is Knack but its one to wait for the reviews for me.

May still get a PS4 on release but after having an expensive car bill recently I'll have to see how finances are still I had to eat into my 2nd savings account which was for them both.

I agree with this, the Xbox one release line up is far more attractive to me at present. Killer Instinct and Dead Rising 3 appeal to me far more than such as Killzone etc.

For now I'm just getting the PS4 however, but the Xbox One line-up may just force my wallet, which to be fair I don't really want to do as it'll be extremely costly. Damn you exclusives!

PlayStation 4 reserves 3.5GB of its 8GB GDDR5 memory for the operating system, leaving 4.5GB of space for game code, according to current PlayStation 4 documentation shown to Digital Foundry by a well-placed development source.
Interesting to read that after all the moaning that Xbox One reserves 3GB of memory for OS and future upgrades it seems PS4 reserves 3.5Gb

PS4 was originally only supposed to have 4GB RAM all in so I can only imagine they gave up trying to squeeze the OS into a much smaller space and decided to leave themselves some room like Xbox One - an interesting U-turn but makes sense in the long term I guess. Good on Sony for following Xbox One lead with a view to the future in this case though.

I find it hard to believe that a console originally designed with 4GB RAM in mind needs 3.5GB just for the OS, if true then perhaps they're just playing it safe in case they want to add more features later, they can always free up more memory later in the consoles life if not. It's better to start off with a conservative estimate than to commit too much and have later firmwares breaking all previous games.

Not that it matters that much much like the memory bandwidth/types, the GPU is still the biggest difference between the two consoles.

Mostly did 360 this generation, although I did buy a PS3 at launch - it ended up gathering dust as most of my gaming was between PC/360/Wii. I have recently got a PS3 again and it's great having a massive load of games I haven't played before.

With all the changes MS have made recently, I'm still going with the PS4.

Amazing how many people are willing to bump their gums so early. Got a lot of abuse for even saying I was getting an Xbox One (as well as PS4) because it only had 5gb RAM compared to 8gb on PS4.

People still don't learn their lessons that developers often withhold information if it benefits them. This suddenly brings them much more in line with each other. What's interesting is Xbox One is supposedly pushing three OS's and does it with 3gb RAM and PS4 is pushing one OS with 3.5gb RAM. Wonder how these machines will use it.

If PS4 is able to bring up the system quicker from in-game after pressing the media button then I'll be happy. PS3 is improved but it's still ridiculously slow.

Either way, what is eluding many people is that 4gb+ of RAM in a console is absolutely massive and incomparable to how PC's use it.

Agreed, 4GB on a console is a huge amount of memory to be solely dedicated to a game by comparison to both PC and last gen consoles. As you say it's interesting to see some of the people that derided the Xbox for not having as much memory free as PS4 initially with comments about "bloat", now dismiss "only" having 4-5GB as unimportant now its looking like PS4 will also have the same available for games. ;) It actually makes sense for both consoles to leave some elbow room for upgrades and additional functionality given a 7-10 year expected lifespan. If you let devs use 7GB of the 8 available you can pretty much never get it back for the system OS in the future without breaking games. Much the same happened earlier this week when it became clear Xbox One will support indie developers in self publishing and that MS had never said it wouldn't, "nothing to announce now" was interpreted as "no support" by the drama lamaz. :D Now Xbox One may even have better support for Indies with every Xbox one working as a dev kit (PS4 dev kits have been quoted by indie devs as costing ~$15k) the same people who proclaimed support for self publishing as a massive advantage for PS4 are now dismissing it as "affecting few people". Funny... :)

I do wonder as we get closer to release and more information surfaces if the choice will be quite a clear cut as people seemed to think initially. With it becoming clear over the last week that MS will support indie self publishing and sounding like there will be similar memory usage it'll be interesting to see how other things come together. PS4 still has an advantage in price and raw power which depending on APIs etc may or may not translate to being noticeable in game, whilst for me, Xbox has a much stronger initial game line up and nice touches like all dedicated multiplayer servers and fast app switching/snap. PS4 has some nice touches as well which will appeal to different people.

Who knows what else Sony/MS have in the wings though, it'll be interesting to see as we get closer to launch and more details work their way out though.

Either way I don't think anyone could make a bad choice. Both consoles will be stunningly good and I'm increasingly beginning to think the choice will come down to exclusives and which additional features you prefer.

Excellent points Macro.

Another thing I mentioned before, although probably on Twitter, not here, is that all indies will have access to developing using Kinect features and I'm sure some will come up with some ingenious ways of utilising it in an original and fun way because they're more likely to take the risks to do so.

Looking forward to more leaks and twists and turns to come over the next 3 months or so. Some of these thread explosions on GAF etc are amazing. Fun and exciting times!

Macro that last paragraph of yours sums up exactly how I feel about it all.
