I the basic APU configuration in both was the same? I would say that the ps4 would be a bit quicker based on the fact that the one has more software getting in the way of the games- it has a lot of multitasking to do.

Having said that my ps3 is as slow as anything on the dashboard and when navigating menus and the store compared to my 360, when the ps3 supposedly has less software/menus to multitask with. I guess the 360 dashboard is 'coded better' or something.

But yeah same as this current gen- games will be prety made for the weakest link and pretty Much look the same on both. Assuming they both sell well.

I was wanting to buy Microsofts next console as I think the controller is great; but the difference between the GPU and memory has made me switch to PS4. There is a bigger gap this time around than there was between 360/PS3.

It's also apples and apples as the architectures are so similar so you know there is going to be a difference.

Basically comes down to

1152 vs 768 shaders. That extra compute power can be used for physics, post processing effects etc. With scalable engines like you find on a PC, they will just notch up the slider bars on the PS4 version. Your definitely looking at a 10fps advantage OR higher quality effects.

It also has double the pixel fill rate. It's not even close.

RAM situation is a lot closer now that initially expected but PS4 should just have the edge

PS4 GPU however is quite a bit better than the one in the XB1.

Multiplats will be similar, maybe running at slightly high resolution or higher FPS on PS4

Exclusives will again be where the difference is most noticeable.

I really hope your joking. Titanfall looked good on those GTX780s was it at e3?

You mean developer systems that everyone uses, because no one develops a game on the actual console

Plus other games like Forza 5 etc were all running off actual Xbox One hardware.

As for Titanfall, AFAIK it's only a 'Timed Exclusive' for Xbox One, so it should come to PS4 eventually.

End of the day it comes down to which platform exclusives you are more interested in.

While on pure specs the PS4 is looking better. The Xbox One has the games I want to play. So I'll be going Xbox One personally.

The PS4 certainly appear to be more power by the numbers, but it will take a while for first party devs to tap the extra and I doubt any 3rd party devs will spend extra in using the extra power when both systems are so similar, they will just work to the lowest spec. For me however its less about the hardware and more about software and in my opinion the exclusive titles I want the play are on the Xbox.

This is something I disagree with; if both consoles are so easy (compared to the current gen) to develop for, then developers will find it easier to have their games make use of the specific strengths of each console.

I don't think it's necessarily going to mean night and day differences, but it's relatively easy to just turn up some additional effects, AA, AF etc within the game engine.

When all said and done though, until the games are out nobody really knows what the differences will be. Buying a console based on raw specs rather than the games and features is silly though.

I've got a very capable PC for gaming so a decent media hub is the enticing thing

For me it's the opposite. The overlap between PC and 360 releases was considerably larger than it was with the PC and PS3, with virtually every 360 game I wanted appearing on the PC. With the PS3 there were a bunch of exclusives the PC never saw. It may be different this time around, but this coupled with the increased in power (I'm pretty sure at least some games will run better on the PS4) makes the PS4 more attractive.

I very much understand this viewpoint, but for me personally, even with a good gaming computer and a great gaming laptop, I would still much rather sit with my feet up on my couch playing games, then be at a desk playing them. That's why I still prefer console gaming over PC gaming, and it's why I'll be getting an Xbox One (and PS4 at some point).

I think if MS has any sense (however doubtful that looks at times), they'll make all their games console exclusive for at least a year before they port to PC, if not longer. If gamers know they only need to wait a few months before a PC version is released, the Xbox instantly becomes less attractive to a lot of gamers.

I wonder if Microsoft planned this all along, start with an ok system not so good policies etc and then start making the system more appealing by changing things.

Seems to have swayed a lot of votes.

Nah, I think they believed everyone would see how great their new ideas were and would jump on board. Their problem, as they've found out, is that they were absolutely rubbish at putting those new ideas over, and as a result pushed a lot of people over to Sony without Sony having to actually do anything. It's a shame really as before all the backtracking, MS were the one developer who was actually trying something really new and innovative, yet their inability to actually put information across cost them in terms of losing fans, and it's cost the gamers some potentially very cool features.

So you mean, rather than make it appealing in the first place, MS intentionally disappointed consumers with the intent to try to win them back gradually over the course of many months, leaving Sony to only have to exert minimal effort in order to appeal to the rest?

Yeah, definitely planned. :p
