WHICH Z370 MOTHERBOARD ARE YOU CHOOSING AND WHY?

I picked up the gaming 7 with the 240 CM Master Liquid Lite deal. Really happy!

Managed to get to 4.9 on my 8700k and not had any issues by using the pre-created settings in the bios - I haven't tried for 5GHZ yet. Feels a bit too easy - I've never really overclocked before so any tips would be much appreciated.

My only complaint would be Gigabytes website - driver/utility downloads seem impossible to get!

Sites back up. That was the first time I've ever seen gigabytes web site weird like that.

i've had issues with asrock and asus in the past.

so that's why i went with MSI. plus it was the only board which would fit in my case that offered SLI in case i decide to use that in the future.

I don't think a strawpoll is the right way to decide. Even though I own a Gaming 7, I can't reasonably compare the two without being more experienced with high end boards and with the Maximus ROG Hero. If you are looking for pure performance and overclocking performance, ask enthusiasts directly who have experience with both, I posted a few links that compare VRM's and power phases.

For value for money - I think with the current offers for the Gaming 7, its tough to beat. A 240mm AIO and £40 in steam vouchers? Fantastic.

right way?
best way? certainly not.
but it's something :)

just thought it'd be fun to see what the experts and those who listen to them think...

Going Gigabyte this time round with a Z370 AORUS Ultra Gaming
Not going Asrock as in the last 6 years had 2 fail on me (one audio ouput died, other just died)
Not going asus, because I encounter so many that people bring me PC's that have Asus mobo issues

I still have 2 gigabye boards that are still going a p45 running a Q6600
and a X58, both very old and still going strong

Just quick review regarding the Strix Z370-I (mITX) after 12 days.

It can OC my 8600K @ 5.3Ghz with 4Ghz ring, or 5.1Ghz core and 4.8Ghz Ring. Both at 1.4v max.
It takes 1.45v to get it to 8600K @ 5.4Ghz stable and the VRMs are getting warm, don't even going down that route.

Ram, my Ripjaws V 3600C16 kit from last year, is working as 4133C17 at 1.39v (1.35v is stock).
By default XMP profile the motherboard sets it to 3600C15.

The WIFI is pretty powerful. Up to now both my PCI-e card and the dual band Usb stick weren't able to get more than 3 strength.
(router is on the bottom floor). The pci-e being only 2.4Ghz band, was getting 50mbit, the USB at 5Ghz band was 90-100mbit.
The Strix antenna picks maximum strength signal and 130mbit bandwidth.

Others things, the PCI-E is reinforced with metal, and the front M2 socket comes with heatsink, which currently is getting cooled by the massive Aurus Xtreme cooler.

From my experience, is better OC and overall board, compared to both the Gigabyte X99 UG and the Crosshair VI Hero.
And yes is still mITX board, getting dwarved by the Aorus GTX1080Ti Xtreme, but I really like it and if anyone doesn't plan to go down the mGPU route, it does the job perfectly.

I can't see that this has been asked - but apologies if it has.

Which boards can ALL CORE overclock? I saw a review showing the i5 8400 being set to all core 4.0 when XMP profile is set in the bios.

Is this correct? Anyone tested?

IIRC Intel sent out a micro-code update to prevent this on non-k CPU's

8Pack 3200 C14 solid choice. Expect 3600 C 16 out of them easy in any case.

Put my Apex together this morning and with no messing about yet the 8Pack 4133 sticks seem pretty happy just hitting XMP and getting this:

Seems stable with a quick 4.9ghz overclock in testing before it gets delidded, wondering what kind of timings you think might be possible or just go for raw speed?
