Just picked up a 17 plate Fiesta ST3. I haven't had a smallish fast hatchback in quite some time. Takes me back to the 90's when I was driving around in (albeit less refined) cars such as the 205 GTI, Golf GTI and 5 Turbo.

One question: Is there any way to make the doors auto lock/unlock when you are driving. Seems like such a strange thing to not have on a 2017 vehicle.

I don't think there is sadly. I believe it is blocked from being enabled by Ford, I think they get the option on the US models, but not over here.

Yes there is. I've activated using a modified elm327 (I believe) using the programme forscan. Mine now auto locks at 15mph.

Once activated there's a button combination to press on the lock buttons to enable it.

How easy is this to do? How easy is it to avoid hooky modified elm327s?

Is the one I bought. Useful for fault finding too.

Pretty easy if you buy one and download forscan. Just click on a module forgot the name then engineering mode and then it lists all the things you can activate auto locking is there. Once activated save changes and then there's a button combination to press on the lock buttons til a chime occurs and it saves.

Something similar to the below I followed.

Wheels are starting to show the car up a little, some of the lacquer is peeling and I've caught a couple on kerbs.

Want to get them redone but dunno if I should stick with the standing colour - 2013 style pack so Rado Grey. Pic of how they were 2 years ago:

or go for the darker Rock metallic on later cars.

Your Rado wheels look lighter than mine on the focus (much closer to the second), which should be the same as mine is a late 2012. Unless the wheel type is making the difference I guess. Either way the slightly darker is better from the photos

Hi,

I've owned an ST (15 Plate) for a year now. Recently I've noticed a metal-on-metal grating sound when turning left (only when near or on full lock left) on the drivers front wheel. Anyone know what the hell this could be? It could have been going on for longer but probably couldn't hear it over the radio, but now the suns out the windows down :)

I've no way of jacking up to see for myself.

I'd take it to get looked at.

Fitted my engine mount, gfb DV+ and short shifter this week. The engine mount takes some getting used to adds a lot more shudder when setting off, but does feel like less torque steer and better at getting the power down.
The gfb dv+ holds boost loads better and does stop the pigeon noises from the previous valve with an ITG fitted.
Finally one of my favourite mods the short shifter. Very very impressed feels fantastic.

When I had My Focus ST i would hear the same noise occasionally almost like metal grinding against metal or an angle grinder cutting metal always seemed to notice it at low speeds in car parks etc. Anyway turned out to part of the driveshaft had broke was quite hard for the mechanic to find it actually

Holy *$&£!, expensive fix?

Yeah I'm getting it booked in, that as well as a grinding sound on braking is starting to annoy the hell out me. The grinding brakes are also odd as the discs and pads look fine, unless there is a stone trapped somewhere on the inside :/

Picked up a blue 2017 ST3 a few months back. Really really enjoy driving it, takes me back to the 80/90s cars I was driving 20-25 years ago. 5 Turbos, GTIs and the like. Fun nippy little boxes on wheels.

A bit annoyed at the moment however

One of my neighbours has managed to put a 4 inch gouge into the rear bumper corner over the weekend. Yet not one of them has owned up which is really annoying as we get on really well with all of them. I know it was done over the weekend as it was parked up on Friday and hasn’t moved, just when I walked up to it this morning a saw it straight away from a distance.

Need to find out how much that will cost to fix. Does anyone have any body shop recommendations in the Slough/Maidenhead/Reading area?

It depends if it was a full driveshaft replacement your looking at around £400 each side but you would know if the driveshafts where completely buggered the steering wheel would be vibrating really badly. On mine it was a certain part of the driveshaft that had broke and my mechanic could never find the problem when he looked it was only when I sold the car and the guy that bought it heard the grinding noise he had a ST specialist look over it he found the fault. Cost him about £250. It was a common problem on the Focus ST’s if you have a heavy foot and accelerate hard from standstill.
Yeh just take it to a good mechanic and get them to go over it thoroughly underneath could be a broken spring or anything.
