Who here owns a Fiesta ST?

The front valance on the Mk7 is picking up scrapes from speed bumps...annoying!

You'd have thought i was racing over them...

Looks about the same height as my car James. Still don't get how you get away with that splitter, bet it scrapes easily :D. I know my standard plastic strip is slightly scuffed all along the bottom, despite me being careful on speed bumps and ramps, never mind the deeper one on your car or the FRS style ones some people fit!

It's not that bad really! I was running the RS style one but was to worried about it hitting anything so sold it. Since this is plastic I know it has a bit of give ;)

I live on a main road which has speed bumps - the ones you straddle - and there's only one that it gently scrapes over. Going up kurbs is a no no and on some driveways (doing a u-turn) i've managed to scrape it but like I said, for £35 I aint too fussed. It does the job of making the car look lower and it will stay together being plastic.

I did managed to practically rip it off at the Mountune HQ in Essex though :p Luckily the guys there had a spare cable tie ha.

Managed to acquire some Mountune style side stripes from Dave at DMB so watch this space :D

I'm in the process of getting mine back on the road after a year being SORN. It got taken to a local garage for diagnostics as, just before I SORN'd it the ABS light came on, they reported back to me the codes U0121 and C1095, they are going to give me a full run down tomorrow. I'm just hoping it wont cost too much to sort.....

Got a funny problem at the minute, googled and it came up as a fault that has occured on the ST.

1.6 Zetec engine, key in to P2, wait for lights to go out, crank car, starts fine, then dies instantly, or the car doesn't start at all. 95% of the time it is fine, but now and again it does this.

Giving the car a bit of throttle doesn't seem to do anything. Once it does it, it can be a pain to start several times, awkward if you just pop to get petrol or something.

No misfiring or anything, car runs fine, MPG is normal, can't find any fault with anything.

Some people suggested putting your foot to the floor when starting the car but I've not been able to try this yet. Possible fault due to fly by wire throttle, which is cured with an ECU update?

Due for a B Service in a couple of thousand KM, which is a bit more than normal, plugs etc I think.

Job's for today:

1: Rear brake lines uprated.
2: New brake fluid.
3: Front brake cooling ducts.
4: getting my old CS3 tyres fitted to my std alloys... Going to wear these right down at Snetterton next thursday ;)

in my quest for more laptime i've been constantly looking at track day tyres... But then i found a set of slicks for £160!!, too good to be true?

Some trackdays won't let you use slicks at all, some others will let you use them but only in a car with a full roll cage!

With no tread blocks to squirm about, on slicks can be pretty tough in that you don't get much feel of when they are losing grip, not as much as with a treaded tyre, and you find that when they do give up grip you are going much faster around a corner than you would on road tyres! Generally from what I've read you will have much more grip, much less progressive behaviour when they do let go, and less warning that they are about to...!

I'd be cautious myself but if you're allowed to use them and would be at least moderately sensible whilst learning the new limits I would be tempted at that price! :D

What tyres do you have at the moment? I figure you've been through a few sets! :D

I'm on p zeros at the moment, 205/45 R16, will probably need new ones in the Autumn though and fancy a change - Federal 595 RSRs, Michelin PS3, and Advan AD08s (bit pricey) are all on my current shortlist. In this size you can't get any high performance Continental or Goodyears, and I do fancy something a bit more focussed as I want to do a trackday this year.

I know the michelin is not a track day tyre but seems the best of what's available from more regular 'high performance' tyres, being better than p zeros, T1R, paradas etc.

I have two sets of continental cs3's. I removed my first set after my last 2011 trackday, because I wanted fresh tyres for winter. Got to the stage now that my current ones have same tread as second set (5mm and 3.5-4mm) which I put onto my standard wheels for snetterton this Thursday coming.

Had GoodYear f1's before, probably slightly better grip but they let go quiet aggressively on the edge. Also had issues with them being directional so the left side of the car wore out and the right still had 5mm left! With the CS3's Im constantly rotating to keep them all level.

I've noticed with this hot weather that after long/hard driving I can hear a hissing/boiling sound for about a minute after turning the engine off, could this be my PAS fluid boiling that I've hear so much about?

I've had a peek in the reservoir and the fluid is looking pretty black so I guess it'll be ready for changing....how much would you expect to pay for this if you provided your own fluid?

Ta :)

Have you had the air conditioning on? I sometimes get some sound, not exactly like that though, after having the AC on for a bit.

Yeah I've been having the AC on pretty much permanently this last couple of weeks, I didn't think it could've been that.

Still though, my PAS fluid being black needs changing right? Is this something I could do on my own drive or better getting a garage to do it ?

Are you a member of fordfiestast.co.uk? If so, click , should give you all the instructions you need. If it's black it will need changing (have you dipped something into it to check the colour as mine looks blackish when looking into the res but it's red otherwise). I think there is a guide on FiestaSTOC as well but I can't find it at the moment.

In regards to the hissing noise, it may well be your power steering pump. After you've been out, once stopped, turn the steering wheel and see if the noise gets louder.

Got some adjustable drop links on the way, will report back when they are fitted.

This year will see more suspension improvements, namely the above, camber adjustable lower arms and pollybushing!
