Who here owns a Renaultsport?

Fair shout. Sticking a cone filter on the end of some bright blue pipe right next to your hot engine always strikes me as being very chavvy and pointless. However, if you are going to try to shield it and feed it fresh cold air then it could work out well. Plus, bet it sounds awesome!

I thought heat soak wasn't much of a problem with the F4R engine? the air filter is right behind the front grille anyway so cold air would go straight to it. The standard air box is supposed to be very well designed too as far as performance is concerned!

I believe cotten gauze are also the loudest type :D

Heres the new fog light surround on the car, don't know whether to get a black or silver ram inlet?

I would assume from the front a silver would look pretty much like you have got normal fog lights in, whereas a black would look like you had blanked the flog lights?

I vote black.

I generally agree, but green make damn good filters, infact these are used at motorsport levels. As long as you get a decent supply of cold air to the filter, it will perform better, as this has 25% more surface area than the stock paper filter, and cotton is the best material to use for air filters. I'll probably make some sort of heat shield as well. I've even been contemplating getting a pipe made up that puts the filter at the bottom of the car

Is the standard airbox not proven to be better though?

Still doesn't justify the size of the cone (IMO of course)! Bigger doesn't mean better!

I know, i already agreed above, thats not my car above :p

I've also been reading that the best place for a cold air feed is just under the top of the bonnet (below the front window). Something to do with the way the air comes off the end of the bonnet. I believe quite a few rally cars use this, any body know if this is true?

I would stick with the standard tbh, they aren't restrictive.

Can you move the battery so you can mount the filter in a better place? Long term I am planning on moving the battery to the boot of the car so I can move the airbox.

Yeah its a possibility, and thats what many people do with the V6 box, all things im considering. Won't know what im going to do until it all turns up though.

Yep there's a sticky over on CS in the Engine sub forum I believe. Panel filter & remap and be done with it :)

IIRC they had put no effort into supplying the filter with cold air, simply ripping out the standard box and plonking a aftermarket filter in its place. They also didn't test cotton gauze filters, only metal (heatsoak central) and closed induction.
