Who here owns a Renaultsport?

A decat replaces the catalytic converter. It is just a straight through pipe. It means your car won't pass its MOT. You can buy the decat separately. If I had a 182, I would be buying a yozza exhaust with a decat. It frees up a little bit more power (2-4bhp) but sounds quite good :D.

So you're essentially buying the standard exhaust kit with an additional pipe?

So when your car needs an MOT what do you do? Put the CC back? How difficult a job is this? What does 'cat-back' mean then?

"cat-back" means from the catalytic converter to the back of the car. On a 182 it isn't too much of an issue to swap the cat/decat over. You will need to declare it all to your insurance company, some won't let you decat your car. Also VOSA might have an issue with your running a decat if they stop you.

Sounds like more hassle than it's worth! Might just do a straight miltek exhaust swap and remap but forget the cat-back, don't particularly want my 182 sounding like a ferrari anyway :)

I think you're getting a little confused. Theres 4 parts to the exhaust system.

1)The manifold - you won't need to replace this as the 182 comes with a 4-2-1 manifold as standard.

2)The cat or decat pipe, attaches after the manifold.

3)Centre pipe, in almost all cases this will have a centre silencer on it.

4)Back box - in the 182's example, it has two.

A cat back system, means it will include the centre pipe (silencer) and back boxes. This will retain the use of the cat.

A decat system, apart from stating the obvious, is the same as the above, but the cat is replaced by a straight through pipe called a decat..

EDIT: A bit late with the posting, serves me right for clicking post, and then going for a smoke :p

Someone is doing Trophy Turinis swapped with 182 wheels + £100 if anyone is interested - http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?583251-trophy-turinis

If he was closer, and I didn't have so much on this much I would be on some turnis this month :(

Thanks alex.

So the standard I need is a cat back system? If so, is it worth me snapping up the gumtree ad above?

IMO, if your going with a Miltek go brand new just for that peace of mind with a warranty and don't go ebay either.

Thanks, what's the best price online for a new one cat-back?

Not sure if the cheapest mind you, prob get a better answer on CS though. I had mine on the car when I bought it.

Edit - it is £50 more than the ebay one though, depends how easy they would be to deal with come warranty time if its ever needed. I hope to god my seals never go.

Been offered a 182 for a good price... Though unfortunately this thread has put a damper on my feelings given all the reliability problems here!

*Touch wood* Mines be running fine for almost the year I've had it. for around 5k it's not faulted at all. The battery died shortly after I bought it as it was the original one from the factory. A replacement and it was good as gold again.

What reliability problems have you spotted that would be different to any other small hatchback with a big engine? Apart from a couple of expensive service items (belts) there's really nothing in a RS Clio that's any worse than any other Clio, or any other small hatchback.

Gearbox issues are really quite common on the RSs actually.

They are horribly unreliable, but for a car like this there probably aren't any cheaper prospects for that much fun.

They aren't 'horribly unreliable'. They are as reliable as you would expect a French hatchback given 170bhp to be, and are priced accordingly. If they were holding value at BMW Mini money, then I would have an issue, but they aren't.
