Who here owns a Renaultsport?

I don't have any 0-60 figures, although i think it has taken .2-.5 of a second off it. (Well at least it feels that way) The most enjoyable part is the improved drivability it has created.

Did a few mods after Christmas.

I could'nt believe the difference these made. The car feels transformed, it just pulls and pulls from 3,500rpm until the limiter and 2nd gear is now immense.

The exhaust is slightly louder that standard when idle, and not much louder when driving, but sounds very 'respectable' when giving it some.

Please excuse the dirtyness, i drove to Derby (Scorpion to have exhaust fitted) and took the scenic route home via Snakes Pass.

Have just checked out the scorpion rs192 on youtube, and my does it sound nice. What's it like at motorway cruising speeds?

When i finally get a 182/trophy (need more NCB) i think i'd have to get me a scorpion.

It's slightly louder than standard (noise was a major factor in deciding which exhaust to go for)

It's not silent but its certainly not OTT.

Guys,

I'm looking at swapping/trading my car for a 172. Been looking at a few cars recently MX5, ST170 and these. Looked at a few MX5's today..

Insurance is £9 cheaper on the 172 than the 320i so that's no longer an issue as it once was.

I'm considering going and looking at this one

Is there any MAIN things I should look out for with these cars when looking around one. Anything I should enquire about and any services I should look out for?

I heard the cambelt should be done at a certain mileage and it is top priority?

That ones an import and has one melted steering wheel. Theres nothing wrong with a important but lacks weather protection underneath and dont have an alarm unless its had one fitted. You can normally tell its a import from missing stickers on the windows, alarm led by the gear stick and motion sensors inside on the A pillars.

Regards to the steering wheel- its a common fault for the thumb grips to rip and the "leather" to melt and become sticky. A few people on the clio forums got theirs replaced under warranty, or replaced it with an after market one. New from the dealer they are around £300 or something crazy.

Aux belt should be done at 36k and cambelt at 5 or 6 years cant remember im sure someone will know.

Cambelt is every 72 OR 5 years. A lot of people seem to neglect the latter notes but it is time critical as well. It's pretty expensive for 'just a Clio', a dealer will pull you pants down for about 6-700 just for a belt change. Personally I'd expect to pay about £500 for a belt change complete with major service from a decent specialist.

Some people moan about the gearboxes, but depends how they've been looked after.

Just make sure it's been serviced properly, preferably at a decent specialist, but the important thing is get a good test drive in as you'll soon notice anything not right.

Anybody here with a 172 come up against a Fabia vRS, rolling at 20-30 mph?

My mate has just got a vRS and from what we can gather, it's standard (no remap etc).

The 172 does not close the gap on the vRS until it hits 5th gear.

Is the 172 broken lol?

Are you racing from a stand still or rolling start at say 30mph? If standstill the clio should have it. Rolling start would be another story due to the torque the diesel produces.
