Who here owns a Renaultsport?

Ben have you tried putting on the old pads (if you've still got them) to see if the issue is there?

I still have them but don't think it's the cause of that much travel. I think there is still air in the ABS. The pedal firms up with the engine off, still move a bit too much for my liking. But as soon as the engine is on the travel is just ridiculous.

Have dropps Sam's dad's friend who helped last time a text, been a specialist for 20 years so hopefully he can sort it.

Brakes all sorted by Dan at 519 this evening, top bloke, so will be having any work done there in future, just needed rebleeding again, god knows what Bucks auto's were doing

I have buckets & harnesses coming next week :) rear bench will be coming out.

And plan on restoring my headlights in the near future and generally tarting it up a bit as it's long overdue some TLC!

Decided to have a custom map done and possibly some other work so have an RStuner for sale over on CS.net.

What did he do? I swear mine arent right but TDF can't find a problem.

With the engine on I can press the brake pedal hard enough to reach what feels like a stopper :\.

:(

I have to make a decision. Tax is due end of this month, and MOT expires at the begining of next month. I need to replace the front discs, change the brake fluid, and refurbish the front calipers. I also have to fix anything that fails on the MOT (not that I think anything will).

But, once all that is done, all the car will do is sit outside my flat until my next track day, which may not be until next year now. Unless I decide to drive to work to avoid the rain, or nip to the shops while my GF is out, it wont get used.

So, do I just park it up and SORN it instead, and take a refund on my insurance and look at fixing it after Christmas?

Well, I have 5 months left with my 182 before I sell it and set sail (well, wings) for Canada.

I really love my car. Even after all the problems I've had, I still look at it (especially from the front) and think, "yup, that looks pretty badass for a Clio". It's such fun as well. I'm going to miss it!

It'll be air in the system. If the brake pedal compresses that much it'll have to be air, as fluid doesn't compress.

If they've already actuated the pump they just need bleeding again. Dan @ 519 said it can be a piston that's pushed back a bit too far but not really sure how you would rectify this.

We bled mine manually, reservoir cap off & topped up, foot pressing on pedal, crack the nipple open, couple of pumps right the way down to the floor, some nice and steady & slow, close nipple with pedal depressed. Move around other 3 corners.

A big old amount of air came out my back left but the rest were fine. Quite surprised my local couldn't bleed them properly with 4 attempts.

Might need to get the ABS pump to cut in and them give them a bleed. Don't get fobbed off by your garage like I did with a 'limp' pedal.

Sounds like it will be for sale in 6 months time with 'a few bits that need doing' :p

It will be back on track in 6 months. Its just I don't drive it normally and don't have any track days planned for the rest of the year.

I've bought the bits to fix it and will get the brakes done and an MOT by the end of the month, and then park it up over the winter. That way if I do decide to do a last minute track day I can just tax and insure it and go.

I do have to sort out something for the headlight washers though.

Posting on behalf of my brother who has a 182 with both cup packs. He's looking into making the suspension more track oriented.

The top mounts need replacing asap, so he's ordered some solid K-Tec jobbies. He's also looking into a set of Eibach Pro springs - do these make a profound difference to the handling? I'm not a fan of progressive springs personally, and the Eibach Pros are regarded as too soft for track use in the 'Saxo world'. Any opinions on these or alternative setups (coilovers) would be appreciated. :)

He's probably going to add a rear ARB too. Is a Whiteline the only option, or are there cheaper alternatives?

If you ask on ClioSport you will be told that the only way to go is coilovers, and then they will insist that anything under £900 is cheap and rubbish.

If you want to blow a grand then sure, go ahead. But if you have more than 2 brain cells and want to have some money left to actually do some track days then springs are a much better bet. This is ignoring the fact that the choice of coilovers for Cup packed 182's is very limited anyway.

The Eibachs are pretty much the best springs for track use as most others are just for lows. The Pro's don't lower the car but stiffen it considerably. The Sportlines lower it and stiffen it. They made a massive different on mine (I have Sportlines) but I was coming from stock 172 suspension. I've also fitted Cup shocks which are stiffer. A word of warning though, it does make the car tedious on the road due to its stiffness. My car is far from comfortable on long journeys.

An ARB is a great addition. There was a guy selling replica's on CS a little while back (ScarySquirrell has one), but I don't know if he's still about. Other than that I think the only option is a Whiteline. They cut out understeer and make the rear end far more responsive.

If he wants to actually take it on track rather than just go for track looks then better pads are a good bet. That and some braided lines as they are a fairly cheap addition.

My shopping list for my cheap track converstion was:

Cup shocks
Eibach Sportlines
DS2500 pads
Decent (DOT4 or above) fluid
Braided lines
And because of tyre costs, some 15" wheels and track tyres.

If you have the money to blow then coilovers will obviously give a better result, but I'd rather spend the money on actual track days.

Its also worth noting that I did that conversion over about a year, doing track days in between. Theres no point in blowing all your money on track prepping the car and then not actually tracking it. I'd get an idea of what you want to change, and then go on a track day first to see which bits you feel need doing most/first. The 1*2 is a handy track toy even when fully standard.

Will pretty much echo what skeeter has already said, but also add that for brake fluid, use ATE super blue, its absolutely fantastic for track stuff and comes in two different colours which makes bleeding the system a pleasure.

For brake pads, get the carbone lorraine RC5+ pads, they are cheaper than DS2500, offer i would say 10% better braking and have never faded on me after heavy abuse (ds2500 have). They are actually on offer at the moment from ktec too (have been for quite a while).

The whiteline rear ARB is fanbloodytastic. Buy one, simple as that.

Yeah super blue is what I have. Just bought some more to change when I get my brakes fixed. However the Brembo disks are out of stock meaning I can't fix it before my MOT. So it's forced me to SORN it :(

Trader on CS has brembo HC's already sprayed with anti corrosion paint, bought some off him around 3/4 weeks ago, £50 for both fronts. Posted a few pages back I think.

Edit: Whoops, see alexisonfire's post :p

My alternator decided to die today :(

Was putting out 17V!

Made the electrics do all sorts of crazy stuff.

Had to disconnect it and drive home with just the battery. That's another £400 down the pan for a new one :(

Is it worth doing the Aux belt at the same time?

I've been sent the wrong DS2500s. I've received part number FCP1667H! Hopefully he can sort it out and I'll get the correct ones by Friday as I have Donington next Tuesday. :(
