Having been out in this a few times it's a lovely car.

Mines based on a 1*2. RS133 (some say the baby of the range, i like to think the chuckable one)

This dam country!

Just moved my car to find that some ***** has ripped off my rear wiper! I'm mean just why? Why would you rip off a rear wiper?

Hi Guys,

Looking at getting one of these in the near future, However I'm struggling to find a reasonable Insurance Company to Insure with.

22/Driving for 5 years/4 years NCB/No accidents ect.

Who are you guys insured with, and how much do you pay ( if you don't mind me asking?)

Any help / input is appreciated.

Thanks In Advance !

24, driving for 6 years, 5 years ncb, no claims - January this year I renewed at £730 with Elephant. Hoping it'll be closer to £650 come renewal time!

Just tried Admiral,

Came out at 708£ With just myself using the car, Or 682£ with my parents on as named drivers :)

Not as bad As I was first being quoted !

Just had the 182 in for its 12k service and MOT.

To be fair, I'm not the most mechanically minded, so I was neither expecting or surprised to find a few things need attention.

They didn't even charge me for an MOT as it was going to fail on;

-both front shocks leaking
-excessive play in N/S track rod end
-both outer C.V boots insecure

How much are we talking here?

Quite a considerable amount in labour but not much in parts if you get them your self. From memory i believe new shocks are around £100 each from renault. CV boots are about £10, but if the CV joint is knackered you are looking at a complete drive shaft replacement as its one unit. These are again, £100 each from renault if i remember right. Track rod is about £10 each.

Garage will probably charge 4-5hours labour.

I've seen the shocks for £60 each, the CV boots just need new clips / possibly regrease I think so I reckon parts I'm looking at £150 at the bottom end, £200 tops. Is it frowned upon to source your own parts?!

I've only been driving since Feb and have never visited a garage! Garage labour cost (indy) £60p/h?

4-5 hours labour + parts & MOT Talking £500 here?!? That's insane.

For someone who doesn't have a great deal of experience, how tricky are the track rod ends to do yourself? The CV boots I'll just jubilee clip?

I reckon I could manage the shocks, plus I've seen there's a guide or two about.

I've got a week where my car isn't essential so I'd rather give it a stab myself.

Replacing the shocks is really rather easy, very basic DIY stuff. The track rod ends are even easier, shouldn't take more than 15 minutes per side, BUT you will have to get the car aligned afterwards. Again, replacing CV boots is easy, it takes about 30 seconds, but the labour to get to the stage is rather lengthy as its a complete hub off job.

They are all very easy jobs to do as long as you have the right tools.

Well I've had a very nice offer from a friend who has all the tools and some good know how. So I'm going to order up the shocks (£59 each ktec) and a track rod end (£19 eurocarparts). The CV boots dont need replacing, just regreasing/securing with jubilee clips, so the hub shouldn't need to come off, or should it?

Whilst I have the shocks out, is there anything else worth replacing? (edit..I was thinking top mounts until I saw the price of the ktec ones!!)

If your front discs or pads need changing its a good time. Front brembo discs and pads are available for £50 all in. Might be worth checking the lower ball joint too. Lots of stuff you can polybush down there too! :p

Probably best to do both track rod ends. Renault have upgraded the standard top mounts I believe, don't think they are that expensive.
