Who here owns a Renaultsport?

Developments! Copied form CS -

So...

I've been round the engine bay with my sockets and tightened up the bolts on the inlet manifold - the noise has gone! Great!

However...

Approaching a roundabout after a few mins driving back home, come to a stop, clutch engaged ready to pull away and the car stalls! Wtf?! Start it back up thinking 'hmmm odd' but carry on. Notice that the revs are massively dropping when I come to a stop either to roundabouts/traffic lights, but then revs jump back up to about 750 - normal for idle I suppose. This continues until I get home, parking up into my bay and it stalls again!

So now I'm at a total loss! One problem fixed, another appears! I'm wondering have I tightened the bolts up too much on the inlet manifold?

So I just had my cambelt and dephaser changed by Mark Fish @ Mark Fish Motorsport (182 cup packed)

Expensive, but worth it, he completely looked the car over and had a list of recommendations and "urgent" suggestions (such as front drivers side arch liner missing).

The body work has seen better days, but mechanically it's sound, now on 138k and going to renew steering rack bushes and wishbones and then that'll be it, not a lot of change from £1k but at least I know where I stand with the car!

So does anyone want to race me to 175,000 miles??! :D

1k to replace bushes and wishbones?

This is what puts me off with my 182, the work I want done wheels, dent on bonnet, dent on door (rage at both of these as not me), refresh suspension and then cambelt/timing is coming up next year. This is over 1k easily but the car is barely worth that.

So if I do spend it, it's a case of then keeping the car until it dies.

Just nipped out to pick up some new rear pads (£14.27 for a set, bargain), and had a fiddle with the screws on the inlet manifold. Loosened them all and then tightened back up, started the car up and moved it back and forth a bit and the juddling/almost stalling has stopped!

I don't understand cars sometimes...

Time for a new gasket?

I'm picking up a new gasket for the plenum/inlet manifold and its only something like £7, can check tomorrow for sure, I'm sure mines leaking oil(well not technically oil, it just looks oily!) or something as its stained black around where the two parts join!

Also picking up steering rack bushes  Did a trial run of tools today and decided a halfords advanced 9 pieces set ratchet spanner set was on the cards, why oh why can't it be on the sale price of £20 it has once been one, still though they get good reviews and £40 down from £80 seems ok!

I feel its going to be a looooong cuss filled afternoon!!! Thank god theres a guide on clio sport which I made sense of earlier, but doing it on axle stands, wish me luck!!

Cambelt and dephaser and full check over was about £800, no need for waterpump as he said it did not need doing and they don't break and are replaceable retrospectively, so about £200 for bushes, wishbones etc and a few new tools so up to around a grand, should look to spread it over 4 months @ £250, here's to hoping the clutch doesn't give out in the next year or so , 6 hours labour at best!

Hey

Some advice from you peeps please.

I had the Dephaser, Timing Belt Kit, Aux Belt Kit, WaterPump, Oil Drain and refresh, New coolant... All approx a month ago. (Clio 172 2004)

I hadn't noticed any ticking till today as I was putting the engine cover back on. (it ticked before I put it on so not that)

It seems to be coming from the center of the engine, I used a long tube and listened to each bit and it sounded from the center.

The garage who did the work isn't open till Monday and I wont be able to book the car in for around 6 weeks due to work, if it is an issue with their work then its under a sort of guarantee I expect. if it is the dephaser i wont be best pleased and will be having them replace it for free

Could a Lifter be at fault? (read about those and causing a ticking sound)

The Tick gets faster as I rev, I have taken a video and you can hear it clearly. There is a slight whine as its not up to full temp yet. But once it is its still there.

Let me know what you think.

Video doesn't exists diagro?

Mine has a slight ticking noise, which is surely just down to age I put it up to, fix ya video then can perhaps compare it to mine which has literally just had the belts done by a motorsport specialist!

Also, did the steering rack bushes today and fitted arch liner to drivers side.

Steering rack bushes, **** **** **** (FTS)

What a ballache, got stuck an hour in which delayed me 2hours, but if I had to do it again it would take roughly 1.30hrs I reckon, it really is incredibly fiddly when you're on a driveway, also tracking is now out by a mile, so need to go to the trained monkeys tomorrow as it's the only place open :<

Did this garage have the correct locking tools for doing the belts??
Yup, Its a Renault specialist in Nuneaton. Owners sons own the 172's aswell.

Sorry here it is again:

Ticking is more profound @ 20sec onwards

Sounds more from the right of the engine now. hmm

Any way I can solve this or do I have to take it to the garage?

Impossible to really say over a youtube video for sure, judging by you say you went to somewhere in Nuneaton that puts you in the midlands, get yourself over to Fred @ BTM Performance.

He posts loads in the ClioSport forums, don't know if you're a member but he seems to really know his stuff, if you were southern I'd suggest where I went the other day.

Best bet I reckon, then you can go back and consult with you're garage that did the work if you get a third party opinion to see if anything is amis, good luck!
