Who here owns a Renaultsport?

Right finallllllly after a two week wait due to a broken printer at the dealer I had my results posted me after 2 phonecalls and 2 weeks. This was for a free summer health check I posted about a few pages back.

Grand total £1,549.49 worth of work that needs doing...

Engine Oil Low, Coolant Level Low + Change = £114.08
Cambelt Replacement Required + Waterpump = £946.65
Brake Fluid Service = £49.36
Rear Pads/Shoes = £148.84
Rear exhaust mounting worn/weak = £59.74
2 new rear tyres (NSR= 4mm, OSR = 3mm) = £115.41 per courner.

The rubber is a little perished on the exhaust mounts but it's sitting fine and not knocking.
Tyres they quoted me for don't appear to be PE2's.
Brake upgrade is happening next weekend for the front, discs/pads/lines/fluid and also new pads on the rear, will inspect the discs which shouldn't need changing.
Belts were done at JMS in early June this year (3000 miles ago) for £650, not sure if the waterpump would have been replaced.

Dealer is either blind or illiterate as the service book is quite clearly stamped with JMS Tuning stamps under Full Aux Belt change and Full Cam Belt change!

Free firstaid kit/warning triangle just about makes up for it!

Belts get changed at 35k and around 60k don't they? Oil change can be done yourself, as can coolant!

I thought the brake upgrade was this weekend?

1k for belt change and water pump!? lmao. Should be more like £650, and even that's borderline expensive

£60 for new exhaust mount is also outrageous. Genuine ones cost £20 new

PE2 tyres have been dis-continued. I just got a couple of Eagle F1's on mind and they are awesome - highly recommend

It is, I just copied my post from CS and forgot to change that bit ;)

I'll grab some coolant this afternoon. Better make sure you're wide awake when we get cracking!

Edit: PE2's discontinued?! really?!

I cant believe this thread is on here!!

I own a Ph1 172 ;)

Never expected to find you on here either Fantom, used to love your GTi!

Used to own a Cobalt GTi dont know if you remember, was always asking you questions about your headlining :P

Swapped my 53k miles Cobalt for the Clio with 63k on, would stuff a picture up if I wasnt sat at work :D

Same username on CS, 106OC ;)

EDIT: Im on Eibach Sportlines. They came on the car so I dont really have anything to compare them to! May be for sale soon as well when I get my hands on some coilovers :)
But they are a good set of springs nonetheless, not much body roll yet still a comfortable ride :)

Hi Mate, yeah i remember you from 106oc :)

Will keep an eye out for you on CS

Im doing my driveshaft and balljoints this weekend so should stop the horrible noises (at least a little haha)

next will be the inner track rod ends, the car feels deathly with play in these...

Think i need ARB Bushes too, the car generally needs a fair bit of work to get it up to my standards :)

Here is a pic:

My mate had just cleaned it for me :D (runs a small valeting business)

Cheers

arg i'm getting a humming noise from my drivers side rear, jacked it up and there isnt a lot of movement... what else could it be other than a wheel bearing?

Im getting a humming noise from the front of mine at high speed, it seems to be coming from the passenger side but I have attributed it to my drivers side driveshaft which I am replacing this weekend.

I have recently done an oil change, cambelt and aux belt change with all tensioners.

Its a strange sort of noise, sort of whiring which changes with speed but too slow to be something moving at cam or crankshaft speeds - or even wheel speed for that matter :S

Edit: starting to think this might be wheel bearing, never had one go before though so don't recognise the noise...

i had a noise i swore was a wheel bearing because the noise changed with wheel speed

It was a worn suspension bush causing metal to touch metal and bang against each other, causing the noise.

Which part of the suspension was it? was it on a clio? my arb bushes arent great but the noise occurs in a straight line... could be top mount but I cant see it...

its sort of like 60mph: whirrrrrrr whirrrrrr whirrrrrrr 80 mph: whir whir whir whir 90mph : whiirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Any Ideas?

it wasnt a clio it was a polo

It did exactly that, in a straight line, and the noise got louder the wheels spun. I swore blind it was a wheelbearing to the garage !

hmmm might be worth a look, I will swap the dshaft first before pursueing this noise but do you know which suspension bush was at fault?

I'd say it was a wheel bearing anyway lol, can't think what else at the rear would really cause a hum.

Rear bearings are pressed into the discs, so you can either get a new bearing and pop the old one out, or just replace the rear discs, £90ish for a set complete with bearings already pressed in.

Although running those nasty Apex springs might not be helping, they aren't the best :p
