pah I have a much simplr solution, park the car in the shade / garage. leave the roof down and enjoy the breeze. It's only aproaching 100degrees  It always amuses me when we get out 2 weeks of decent weather in this country that everyone complains that it's too hot!

topless for the win :D

of course if I'm in the laguna then climate at 22 is the way forward

Air-con is for girls and gays. The A/C from my rex is currenty sat on my garage floor in several pieces.

Weight saving > keeping cool.

Bunch of jessies TBH.

I quite like using the A/C in the Estima though :o

Last year I didn't have a/c in my Prelude - leather seats and no A/C FTL

This year, I'm sitting in a lovely cool car, enjoying the sun and the tunes, and am not sticking to the seats :)

Fuel consumption difference? Absolutely nothing noticable. :)

well ive been out for a drive round the country lanes with the aircon on and the blower on 1

used the amount of fuel i expected really, so i reckon its just switching the aircon on and off that does it, once its up and running its not too bad, done a 30-50 in 3rd, pretty much exactly the same as with the aircon off

must admit it did keep the car nice and cool, i like this aircon thing now :p

Awesome thread. Most of you guys don't know how lucky you are.
My first car was a black escort mk1, complete with black vinyl seats and no tinted windows. Felt like the seats were melting onto you when wearing shorts. Complete nightmare.

As for now, for relaxed driving, climate is nice, but for the rest of the time, roof down, shades on, factor 40 and some great tunes!! Let the good times rock and roll!

I remember those days. I had a Mk 2 with the similar black vinyl on the seats. To compound the effect when the engine used to overheat I had to put the blowers on hot in the summer to try and get some of the hot air out of the enigne bay as I drove along (although to this day I think my mate was winding me up when he said it would help). I likened the feeling to what a joint of beef must feel like being roasted for Sunday lunch.

Now I am completely spolit by climate control for a low cabin temperature, ventilated seats to keep the leather from sticking to my back and privacy glass that stops the strong sunlight from undoing all that lovely coolness.

No aircon for me.

I'm thinking of getting an inverter and wiring up my 12" desk fan :D

Seriously though, I just have both front windows and the sunroof tilted upright... open all the way if I get really hot.

Still burns your hands on the wheel and cooks your legs/back on the seats :(

The cloth doesn't really get very hot... although I do have to wear black trousers for work :(

I can definitely feel the heat from the leather though, and the steering wheel... even driving the 50yds from my car park space to the entrance, I have to let go of the wheel at least once!

Tinted windows 4tw!

Yeah LO is around 17ºc according to my digital thermometer (not part of the car).

I thought the LO setting just kept on cooling as much as it could. Sometimes I go from LO to 18 and the fan speed literally reduces to the lowest speed. Which suggested it was far lower than 17.

Although, over the last few days, even on 18, it's still going like a goodun in terms of fan speed.

and yes, Climate OWNS ALL!

EDIT: Paradigm, don't those internal door handles and handbrake button get HOT! I thought they were chrome coated plastic, guess not, lol.

Just realised my new Focus ST will have black leather seats, dash & black rooflining, oops its gonna get a touch warm in there air con or not!

Personally i fond aircon is nice when you first get in the car or when you are in a traffic jam, otherwise i prefer open windows and sunroofs (which a lot of new cars dont have now :()

easy solution for the hot steering wheel problem - carry a light/white hand towel in your car. Put it over the steering wheel during the day, and it'll be no-where near as hot :)
