Who owns a Golf GTD / GTI / R?

You don't 'need' to code them to get rid of errors etc. but it is good practice to code the new battery in so the car aims to treat/understand the battery correctly.

Yes battery replaced when the car was about 3 years old. One of the "chambers" or whatever it was called failed. Symptoms first was stop / start never kicked in and then car failed to start without a bump. Replaced under warranty... Did a thread on it as I was wondering about it being coded.

Thanks all for the responses.

My battery on my 7R was replaced at about 4.5 years old. It let me down one day as i didn't do that as much driving during lockdown. Also it was the inferior Seebang EFB type battery.

I replaced it with a Varta AGM type battery and now the Stop & Start function seems to work much better. If you are changing from EFB to a AGM type battery. Make sure you get it coded in properly as well.

I think my A3 had an AGM and was far superior however I do usually run with Stop Start turned off.

It’s showing itself more and more recently especially with sub zero temperatures therefore Im going to have Halfords fit an AGM and Code it for me as it’s the most convenient option. This weekend or early next week! Hopefully it won’t let me down by then completely.

Nice one, mines is more often stop and starting since having the AGM battery, even more so than I can ever remember on my old battery, even on the short journeys that I do in this colder temperature.

I would pack a portable jump start battery kit just in case.

I have the following in the glovebox, nice bit of kit as well.

Has anyone had any issues with Volkswagen finance? I bought a 2 year All-in plan in November for £600, when I took my car for a service at my local dealer, and haven't heard a thing since. I've emailed 3 times asking where my documentation is and have only had one automated response from my first email. I've also rung twice, been promised a call back on both occasions and heard nothing from them.

I had a call with my solicitor yesterday and other than legal action to try and recover my money I'm out of ideas :(

Am considering a change from my 2015 428i Gran Coupe and the idea of a Golf R/GTI appeals. I’d be looking for something about the same age, £15-18k. Anything I need to watch out for?

R's at that sorta age 2015 will be a Mk7. The usual such as the water pump and thermostat housing. Check if they have been replaced or not. Also might be worth checking the turbo to see if it is the revised version as the earlier ones are known to fail prematurely. Also check if the Haldex system has been properly serviced as well. A 2015 R, if it is a DSG would have had a DSG Oil Service as well. So make sure that has been done. If doing for a manual and if the clutch hasn't been uprated, then budget £800-1000 for an uprated one. The stock clutch on a manual R isn't that great. The usual squeaks on the front suspension points at low speeds is annoying but can be fixed using some 'special' grease. Oh and also check if the boot drain pipe is still there and not perished. If it is missing you will get water into the boot. Also there it is known that water can get in via the speakers location on the door if the seals have failed or loosen over time. Id expect the brake disc and pads would have been replaced by now, unless it has ultra low mileage.

Im sure there are a few more for the R's of 2015. Any other questions. Just fire away. I have a my Mk7 66 plate R still.

Thanks, that’s great. What sort of MPG are you seeing generally?
Look at my signature.

Thats recorded for over 5 years with fuelly. So 26.5 MPGs overall. I use V-Power 99.9% of the time. On longer runs you can see mid 30s to high 30s, but when you are on it, it can dip to high teens low 20s. My engine is still at stock 300ps.

Daft question, have you tried twitter for volkswagen uk? I've had to go via them a couple of times to get issues sorted, they hate negative publicity.
