I just bought mine, the dealer was no mechanic and i played on that,

He had it up for £3500 with 88k on the clock and some big bill service history (previous owner used a bmw garage and some of the bills are eye watering)

There was a minor oil leak on the crank pully and ended up getting the car for £2600 lol.

So far there has been no more oil on the crank so i think it should be ok but ill check it out at somepoint.

My dads pal owns a ford specialist garage so going to let him loose with it some point after christmas.

2600 is probably what it's worth if its 53 plate with 88k :p

Mine was misbehaving a bit today, hope it's nothing serious...

Twice when pulling away, shifting into second, and then accelerating, there has been a bit of a lurch - not a harsh one like the clutch slamming in to place, more like what you'd get with some minor wheelspin.

I tried the traditional test of pulling away from stationary in 3rd gear this evening, without any apparent clutch slippage.

Roads haven't been icy, good surface, good tread.

Any thoughts?

Hi guys. Seen a few of these pop up locally that look in good condition, what is the going rate for one of these now that you wouldn't expect to be a shed? Most locally seem to be between 90 and 120k miles now. Any big bits to ensure are done at this mileage?

When I was looking for mine I had about £5k max to spend and almost everything around near me (100 mile range) was between 3500-4500 and had 80-100k miles :/

I was lucky because I spotted one on Autotrader as soon as it appeared so I got dibs! £3.3k in the end for a 53 plate 60k miles. I guess if I had more time to play with then I might have been able to get a better deal but I needed a car as mine had died so I jumped on it :D

Yeah two Phil's who both lose (or have stolen) a single headlight washer cover on their performance blue Mondeo ST within a day of each other - quite a coincidence I'd say!

Also howard, what is the facelift air box mod if you dont mind me asking?.

When Ford facelifted the car and added the 6-speed gearbox, they removed the second air feed into the airbox because the gearbox got in the way. In typical cost-cutting fashion, they didn't re-design the airbox to eradicate the second inlet, so there's a hole in the bottom of the airbox on the left hand side, about 3 inches long, which sucks in air from the middle of the engine bay. Adding some piping to this which routes round to a "colder" area of the engine bay, i.e. in front of the nearside headlamp, can help with induction temperatures and heat soak.

I should add some "wiki" posts to the first post of this thread with common info and such :p

Not sure about this but twice yesterday from cold start the turbo had a distinct whistle at around 1800rpm. Similar to when wind blows against a window. Once the car was a little warm it stopped. Could it be my turbo is on the way out and I can expect the police siren turbo soon?

I was driving around for months wondering what a metallic noise was.

Turned out to be about £18 quid worth of change in the the little compartment next to the steering wheel.
