so, my nearside spring had snapped (right at the bottom) and while changing it today I decided to, change the front drop link, put a new top mount on (apparently they can go on the st220 as its a heavy engine, first time I've heard of this but I didn't want to pull the shocker off again in future so just bought one for the sake of £16) and bought a new lower ball joint bolt so I could just bash the old one out without worrying about needing to put it back in.
jacked up, wheel off, track rod end came out no problem. went to do the drop link and it refused to budge, after trying everything to get this nut off (wd40, heat gun etc) we turned to chiselling it off and found that who every put it on, caked it in Loctite -.-
the lower ball joint bolt came out no problem (so didn't even need to buy the new one, oh well) but the joint refused to drop out, eventually we got it out but was a right pita!.
pulled the shocker out and removed the old spring and top mount (ps, if you do this, make sure to take note which angle the top mount is located as there is a correct way to put it in, I marked the bolt closet to the window with a bit of tipex).
the new oem spring took forever to compress enough to get the new top mount on, I was getting a bit worried on the strain but got it on eventually.
as we were putting the shocker back in place the bloody drive shaft popped out!!. argh..
got the shocker in place, then put the drive shaft back together and everything else popped back into place. along with the new drop link.
what a right pain!!, what should have been a 1-2 hour job took 5 hours and that was only 1 side, I have the bits to do the other side but might just ignore it for a few months while I recover
tl:dr .... find someone else to fit springs for you
