Who owns a Mondeo ST220 / ST TDCI?

Got my renewal from Direct line the other day for my ST. They want £460 for the coming year (was £430 last year). 5 minutes on moneysupermarket and I found a quote for £360.]

What  where the hell do u guys live? my ST220 was 1k at 28 and ive just been quoted £1250 for the Focus ST ive got lined up to buy :(

Well, I live in a 'A' postcode which always helps. Not too much crime in the highlands of Scotland. :p Also, I think going for cars that aren't typicaly young driver cars always helps. There's less risk because not too many 20 somethings crash Mondeo STs.....Corsas however. :p

Since I've passed my test at 21:

Focus 1.6 - £1100
Focus 1.6 - £535
Mondeo 2.0 - £290
Mondeo ST220 - £430
Mondeo ST220 - £360

Think it might be time to say bye to my ST. Someone crashed head-on into its side :(

The short story of it is I was indicating left to do a sharp left turn (practically a U-turn) onto a side road but the driver behind me thought I was going right and sped up to undertake then hit me half way into my turn.

He's going to claim I wasn't indicating I think so I'm not entirely confident I'll win this 100%.

I had a small accident last year (rear ended while stopped) and went through the other insurer that time but things took ages to sort out as the other driver refused to talk to his own insurer.

This time the other guy is reasonable but his insurer seems to be some kind of broker (Liberty Syndicate Management Ltd) and its a company car.

Admiral (my insurer) have told me if I make a claim through them they'd send it to Just Car Clinic in Hinkley to get it repaired and I'd get some small courtesy car in the meantime. They say the work would be guaranteed for 5 years but I'm worried about the bad reviews they get.

There is a body shop I've used before and they've always done a great job (Perfect Finish in Coventry) but I probably wouldn't get the same guarantee and not sure how the courtesy car thing would work.

What would people suggest for a hassle-free fix? This time I don't want to be driving this car around in its current state for a couple months waiting for the insurer to make their mind up.

That sucks Imy. I hate it when people overtake you as you turn off a main road cause they are too impatient to slow down a little. :(

I'm confused as to what happened - did you swing out right before turning left? Can't imagine how someone could hit you side on like that on a normal single lane road

Ok so, the turning I was trying to do (coming down the hill and turning left onto the side road):

As the cars were immediately after impact:

After he moved his car back a bit:

Oh and when he hit me, he shunted me sideways down the slope a bit.

Can't see how you wouldn't be found in favour of there Imy. It's not a two lane road, and he's come up the inside of you - irrespective of your indicators he is in the wrong.

Honestly I'd go 100% insurance - what are the chances you're going to be driving the car in 5 years anyways?

Before the accident my thoughts on that subject were that by the time I wanted a change, the car wouldn't be worth much and I'd just keep it anyway for when I need the space/seating and I'd get a 2-seater sporty something as my primary car. I do still need to have a 5-seater and right now if forced to buy another car, I'd probably look for one exactly the same.

So would you go through Admiral's approved repairer (Just Car Clinic) and take advantage of the 5 year warranty on the repairs but perhaps face having to send it back a few times for not doing the job right first time or would you have the repair done by a garage you've used before and know do good work but have never had to call upon whatever guarantee they offer so don't know what they're like when things go bad (at which point Admiral won't get involved)?

Loving how cheap fuel is atm. Just done a fuel light brim of the tank and only cost £55. :)

Just stuck £30 in and just went out for a drive last night, just me and my wife wafting down the motorway with no destination in mind.

Was quite relaxing, we were going to have a walk along the beach but it was raining so the cruise was a good replacement
