I cant decide on founders or custom either ... hard choice ! Really can't be doing with noisy gpus nowadays ... how bad is the 1080 founders compared to say the strix 1080 ?
I have had a few FE cards in my time and they are noisy buggers in truth and give me a custom cooled card (like the Strix) anytime over the FE unless you are water cooling :) I will be waiting for the custom cooled cards this time and MSI or Gigabyte for me :)

Many thanks Gregster :). Will be going with a custom evga one then :). Can't wait will be a great upgrade from my 970 !

While I do agree, my mates Fe card isn't all that bad - it does overclock well, but tends to get a little noisy. It's certainly nowhere near the best cooling solutions and was priced awfully, but it doesn't deserve half the flack it goes.

I'm semi tempted to give this Fe a try, if it's crap or doesn't deliver on what they promised, just return it and go custom.

While I like the idea of water-cooling, I don't know if I CBA plus the horror stories of leaks. I use my PC for work, so any downtime is a serious problem.

Decisions decisions!

I purchased a GTX 1080 Founders Edition direct from Nvidia shop several months ago, one thing I did appreciate is the fact that the GPU was delivered in a proper sealed box (unlike some other online shops) the noise at full game load from the Founders Edition was no more than the noise from my EVGA GTX 970 SSC, even less with headphones or headsets. The problem I have with custom coolers is most of the heat is dumped inside the case, so then I am having to ramp up the case fans which in turn increases the noise factor, it's a trade off for me, depends what you like? I prefer as much silence as I can get with some throttling over noise with consistent maximum performance at all times. I personally think the Founders Edition cooler looks better than some of the custom jobs.

Edit: Just to add, I sold the GTX 1080 a while ago to a family friend along whith some other computer parts, not getting any stimulation from games lately but I still like to build, I'm kind of tempted by ghost recon wildlands, the motocross bikes look like a lot of fun to be had across the bolivian landscape and flying about maybe, and this is one game (based on open beta) that needs a powerfull GPU with plenty of vram and all the extra settings maxed out, my 970 just can not handle this game properly above high settings. I tried watch dogs 2 and my 970 at maximum video settings at 1080p got 1.8 fps.

As long as you know what you are dealing with you won't be disappointed.

I tend to go for FE cards as I use SLI a lot and also tend to go for watercooling.

The Gigabyte Windforce cooler is the best I've had, with MSI a close second. The cooler on my current Gigabyte 1080 really is first class for noise and cooling capability.

I like gigabyte a lot, they are always my goto brand where possible as support has been out of this world, however the 980ti g1 can get quite loud.

Yer, horses for courses and when I am gaming, the noise is fine, as I have my speakers drowning out the noise and when webbing, no noise at all as such. Water cooling is easy and just needs a decent plan of action and taking your time.
