Who will build a Ryzen PC (computer)

If I do get a Ryzen CPU it'll be teamed with an Nvidia 1080 because I can't afford to wait for Vega. I'll probably upgrade the GPU in a couple of years when new GPUs come out. Hopefully Ryzen and a 1080 will work well together.

Cant see it happening, it would create a lot of controversy if they did, as ardent Nvidia fans would boycott AMD cpu's if they did. Would be an extremely bold move if they offered increase in performance if coupled with an AMD card, but you would get a lot of conspiracy theory "gimping" rumors and hence a boycott of the CPU by many.

Ryzen & Vega will work better together it seems, building an ecosystem, but not at the expense of previous AMD generations or NVidia cards.

So i think im decided mostly on what im going for, 1800X as im lazy with OC'ing, XFR can take care of that for me hopefully :) , been looking at various 3200mhz ram probably G-Skill Trident Z or maybe that Geil RGB stuff, Asus Crosshair, Asrock Taichi or the MSI high end board, need solid info on specs but it will be one of those, the Asus is currently the front runner and lastly the EVGA 280 CLC AIO. Going to move my 4770k into a Phantek midi tower case for my 2 boys to have as a school PC. Wife wont be happy, boys will be :)

I am waiting for Ryzen and will surely be doing a new build just waiting for some pricing. Will probably go for a Gigabyte motherboard as they have always served me well.

RAM wise I'm not too sure about the brand i want something with so LED lighting really what would you recommend and speed wise 3200Mhz or what ever is faster.

I have no idea of which CPU cooler to get as i am not sure which ones are compatible yet.

I am two minds about buying a new case i have had my current one since 2009 and it still works for me. If i was to change it anything you would recommend?

Thanks

Also hoping its not a temperature beast. The last AMD processors I had got so hot I had insane typhoon fans on them, rather loud.

The rumors have been pointing to it using low TDP and really low voltage, so im quietly optimistic that the temps are not out of control, also for XFR to be of any noticable benefit it needs room to stretch its legs, if your near thermal limit out of the box your limited on your XFR boost, coupled with the fact AMD HS are all soldered i would imagine there should be plenty of room for XFR to do its thing.

I think you will be fine with any decent ram around 3200-3400mhz obviously the lower CAS rating the better, would say around C15 for 3200mhz is going to be ok, C16 for 3400mhz etc, Geil do some RGB stuff, G-Skill Trident Z comes in RGB too, you will pay more for RGB though.

Coolers, personal preference i think, im going AIO as it looks neater and tidy and the results are generally as good as the decent air coolers without adding all that weight on your mobo, personal choice on those would be NZXT Kraken 62, Evga 280 CLC, or at the cheaper end the ID-Cooling ones are superb for the money. For Air then Thermaltake, Noctua, Phantek or Cryorig coolers are all basically the better ones.

With regards to case, again personal choice, i think your current case is still decent, i have a Phanteks case and i can highly recommend them, but ive also had Corsair cases and they are superb and highly recommended as well.

what do you think of this RAM it looks rather tall though so if i have a large cooler might be an issue. https://www.overclockers.co.uk/avex...l-channel-memory-kit-red-light-my-115-ar.html

I have chosen this cooler not sure if it will be compatible though https://www.overclockers.co.uk/thermaltake-riing-silent-pro-12-blue-cpu-cooler-120mm-hs-044-tt.html

That Ram is ok i would probably go with 3400 @ C15 or C16 instead, or even 3200 @ C14, as for the cooler, i dont think it will clear that ram, and i have no clue on the performance of that cooler, personally if your going for an XFR model you want the absolute best cooling you can find to push the XFR as it auto OC's the CPU based on the cooling provided. Now whether that be air cooling , AIO or Water is up to you. Bear this in mind, Air cooling means you have to be very picky about ram size, your pretty much going to need to either find an air cooler that has decent ram clearance or you going to have to go for low profile ram.

If you go for an AIO you can use any ram size you please as you do not have clearance issues, plus i think AIO's just look neater and prettier than a ruddy great air cooler, not to mention i dont think they add as much stress to the motherboard, some of those Air Coolers weigh an absolute ton.

an AIO cooler seems like a better solutionm I have never used one and don't really know how they work. Do you have to top up the levels and stuff like that?

Nope, they are closed loop, a self contained unit, basically you attach the cpu block which contains the pump normally, to the CPU, slap the radiator and fans on the case, plug it in, job done :)

Ive used quite a few different ones now, if you case can take 2 x 140mm fans then even better too. You cannot go wrong with NZXT or Corsair ones personally, but this time round im going to try the Evga one as it looks very good on paper.

Do they work same as air coolers do they need to be compatible with different sockets or are they a universal design?

Yeah, might need an adaptor to allow it to be fitted, but generally it's the fitting brackets only that need modified. No reason NZXT shouldn't be able to release an updated bracket quite easily.

Thank you for your prompt response. Will have to wait for the Ryzen release hopefully it wont be long and then i can get the stuff ordered.

It's going to be 29th Feb for the release isn't it? then it depends when retailers get stock.

Another 3 years to wait?

I'm using an Antec from 2011 and had no issues at all, seems very quiet to me. No hesitation getting another AIO for my next build.

I've got a 3 year old H60 V2 that's still in use with no issues ever (apart from the OEM TIM not covering the CPU adequately, soon sorten with a fresh application of aftermarket paste). So much so, I had no issues purchasing a H115i for my upcoming Ryzen build.
