Who works in Enterprise IT

Also worthy of note is that EMC are one of the most despised companies in the business. Yes, Joe Tucci is turning them around and they are a behemoth but... y'know, it sticks.

Yup, all stems from the Symmetrix days. EMC didn't become the number 1 stock of the 90's by making happy with everyone :p

Systems Engineer for a FTSE100.

Primarily SQL DBA using Polyserve clustered file system (now part of HP).
Cross skilling into SAN technology, HDS / EMC storage, Brocade switches + Commvault Galaxy.

Too many TB to shake a stick at, 800+ servers.

Another HP employee here!

I've not posted here in over a year but was a regular poster for over 3 years before that. I can't believe that so many of the old names that I still recognise work for HP too!

I'm based from Bracknell in the C&I business, i'm a virtualisation specialist working in the Microsoft practice.

Really is a small world!

I presume you are on the current graduate scheme, or you were on it last year? I'm starting September 2nd so I am sure I will see you around!

I don't suppose you got involved in any of the assessment centres?

Very small world!

(Edit: I shall be in C&I as a Technical Consultant as well)

I was part of the 2006 intake. I was involved in a couple of assessment days but I cant remember anyone! May do once I meet you however, as I'm sure I will.

Congratulations on getting through!

Strange that all the C&I people on here are grads too :)

I have heard nothing but good comments about the graduate scheme so far :)

I attended the 11th February assessment day - were you one of the graduates that answered the applicants' questions at the end of the day? My individual interview was with Jeremy IIRC.

Yep, answered the questions (good chance I did that day). Scheme is good if you know what you want to get out of it. I would advise you think thoroughly before coming to HP at what you want to achieve when you first arrive. Don't just coast along :)

Jeremy was my interviewer back in the day and then became my Mentor. A very hard man to please so you must have done well!

Firebar... who are you?

Hi all

I'm the 1 man IT dept for a business of about 50 staff that makes advanced woundcare products. I look after LAN/WAN, security, exchange email, web development (coding rather than design), network admin, IP telephony, PC support, disaster recovery, project management, procurement, and remote working. Phew ;)

......and yes I could do with a hand at times :o (I'm working on it)

Our environment is mainly Microsoft based although I run our telephone system on CentOS using Asterisk and ScopServ with Cisco IP phones. Backbone is HP 2900 and Dlink PoE switches with vlan segregation of voice and data traffic. Backup is handled using a NAS and a product called UltraBac (which is excellent) and security is handled by a new Cisco ASA 5510 front firewall and ISA server as the rear firewall (nice for publishing OWA and ActiveSync). McAfee Epolicy Orchestrator and WSUS handle AV and patch management for me.

Nice to see so many other IT Peeps in this forum. I look forward to gleaning some knowledge off you guys and offering advice where I can be of assistance.

Cheers

ck

Work as a network security consultant for an SMB reseller, moving towards an auditing role at the moment. Have picked up CISSP, CISA, Prince 2 and an MCSE along the way :)

IT contractor here, mostly work in Application Services environments supporting the usual Windows/Exchange/SQL.

Hardware side mostly HP and Dells.

Currently taking it easy on the south coast as I've had enough of London commuting for the time being.

Support manager (and other things) in the financial sector. Have been a techie for a long time, then moved into management.
