Who's happy with single gpu performance?

My brief stint at running crossfire was 10% Joy and 90% frustration/despair. I was lucky enough to return my 2x 390Xs for a Fury X and have been delighted ever since.

The best thing IMO and the only thing I miss about crossfire as how cool the 2 graphics cards looked inside the case.

got to agree with you there, looking at two graphics cards plugged into the motherboard just looks the business

Not happy with the performance of any single GPU on the market for 3440 x 1440 @ 100hz in every title so do use SLI.

For less demanding titles a single 1080 does a decent enough job, just the AAA titles which can mostly make use of SLI where it comes in useful.

Also I just love the way 3 GPU's look in a tower filling the case up, yes I am sad like that :(

So is a 1070 card ok for 4k gaming? I'm after a 1070 mini .

Depends on whether you are okay with tweaking the settings a little or not. If you are the type that wants minimum 60fps on the latest game and must have everything on highest then 1070 will not do. Otherwise I have been able to play every game fine at 2160p so far :D

But I do usually have my core at 2050MHz and Memory 9200MHz for latest games. A mini may not be able to do that unless watercoooled.

DX12 is proving to be a massive step back in mGPU performance.

Where it is harder to do mGPU in DX12 game devs are not bothering for DX11 or DX12.

Visually DX12 does not look any different or better than DX11 in games so far.

Worse still performance often drops with DX12.

I was never a great fan of Mantle but it was a lot better than what I have seen of DX12.

DX12 has been full of empty promises but no real substance so far.

Who cares about MGPU performance - the vast majority (99%+) have single GPU's, so thats all most people (and most developers) care about.

GTX 1080 is great in The Division with everything maxed minus Nvidia settings.

Sadly Nvidia Gameworks kills performance for an extremely minor bump in visuals.

Bit of a thread revival, but ive had my new pc finally up and running and had a bit of play with it now. I havent really played any taxing games on it yet. But warhammer total war now plays at max settings and smooth as butter. Got some bigger games to try like witcher 3, dishonoured 2 and titanfall 2 so that will be the ultimate test.

Me. No inclination to go SLI/Crossfire. Twice the price and twice the power draw for support in only some games, micro stuttering. Pah, no thanks.

SLI is dead if things carry on the way they are... makes zero sense from a cost/performance benefit, support in games is only getting worse, devs clearly don't care for the most part. Mostly e-peen and bragging rights, plus it looks cool in a custom loop.

Only time i would go dual is if I had the money for the fastest card in the world. Then if you have money to burn then getting another is "fun". Thats the only time.
