Who's in to electric RC cars?

decent tune on the engine?

Hoping to convert to electric if possible?
I noticed they have a VRX-2E which is electric, so if I can get the parts for the electric version, I wonder if they will fit?

I like the look of the Mugen MHX-5 too! These cars are huge!

Ended up getting an ok price on the old auction site for a Traxxas Rustler VXL :))

Just need some batteries for it now, with charger.

Anyone got links to any suggested ones? El Master - Drex? :D

Thanks Luke,

Those Turnigys look quite cheap, but can only see them on US sites?

Any links to places that supply these in the UK please?

Sorry for having to be hand-fed so much info!

Oh yeah, I'm looking for some good speed and fairly long usage before recharge.

Would I be right in saying I'm looking to get min of 3S, 30C 5000mAH lipos?

Cheers.
Mark

got a HPI Micro RS4 Drift which i bought off the US bay couple of years ago, which didnt work :(

haven't bothered fixing it since, but after seeing some pics of some cars here, it makes me jealous and want to fix mines. :o

Hobbyking is in the far east and has a warehouse in germany so you get your order quite quick from them. Be careful though, Luke helpfully didnt mension that most of the 3s packs WONT fit in the rustler, a lot of the softcase packs are 50/51mm wide and wont go in the tray. They do some hardcase 3 s packs now that will go in the tray width wise but you will still need to get the traxxas battery expansion kit wich raises the esc up and the battery hold down as the lipo is a lot taller (part 3725X). You can get 3s packs that will fit from places like modelsport in the uk but you'll be paying about £50-£80. The packs from hobbyking work out around £30 with shipping.

this is from the german warehouse, they have other packs with the same dimensions, a 4000mah in both 20c and 30c. You can see form the comments of these that they will go fit in the rustler.

I have a few of the turnigy packs and all perform very well and have done in some cases for over 2 years now.

does your rustler take 3S batteries? make sure Low Voltage Cutoff is enabled on your ESC aswell if you never used a lipo in the car before.

it tells yout the dimensions of the battery Dimensions: 137 x 41 x 44mm

measure your battery tray if it fits you can use it , if it doesnt you could strap it to the car with some velcro :P

Very good post, thank you!

Are these Nano-Tech ones the right type:
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/...2857_Stampede_Rustler_Bandit_compatible_.html

They say Rustler compatible, so should they fit straight in?

I'm thinking I'll rather pay out an extra 15-20 for longer play time... do they look alright?
Cheers!

As Arkor says you need to make sure your ESC is in lipo mode, when you switch it on solid red means NIMH mode (ie no low voltage cut off) solid greed means lipo mode, you switch between modes by holding down the button for 10 seconds.

the rustler tray is 141mm long and 48mm wide. any wider and it wont go in, velcro or not the battery tray sides are too high, you'd have to cut it to pieces. That nano will go in, but you'll be wise to come down a tooth or 2 on the pinion gear and get the fan on the esc if you dont already, after 15/20 mins you'll be close to thermal shut down and you'll need to let it cool down. tbh you might aswell get the lower capacity ones and save a few quid, or not, your choice! just dont cook anything running that long on 3s go easy on it.

Ok, I'd rather not break the bugger.
Should I stick with the 4000mAH and go from there?

What difference does 2C have over 3C?
Is it speed I lose, or running time?

? erm ......... ok, you have 2s (7.4v) or 3s (11.1v) which is the voltage, so 3s is the max. The capacity is the MAH, thats the runtime. Charging should be done at 1c no matter what the spec says (some say you can charge at higher rates but I would stick to 1c, eg. a 5000mah pack at 5 amps.)

Because 3s is the limit and makes the rustler very fast everything will get hot so just go easy on it, and when you think you can fry an egg on the motor pull over and let to cool down for 5 mins.

Hi guys, hoping someone can help me.

A friend and I are looking to get an electric RC car to be used purely for drifting. I've tried looking for 'drift' rc cars but there don't seem to be that many around.

Would it be best to buy a dedicated drift RC car or buy say a standard Tamia rc car, and then make a few changes to allow it to drift?

Would like to have a chassis that can accompany a couple of different shells!

Thanks.

I tried speaking to the customer support on hobbyking, they kept saying that it is not their job to tell me where things are on the website. Very odd!

Either way, I have purchased some lipos, which mentioned were 'compatible' with the Rustler. If they will need a mount, I'll get that when I've got the car and batteries in my hand.

Thanks for all the support Building Candy! high five!

I used to be really into racing, kinda lost interest though, this used to be my setup though

iirc it was:
Team Associated RC10 B3
Novak Cyclone C2
Team Orion Chrome 10x2
stupidly fast KO propo server 2123?? 0.08secs 60deg!!
Futaba 3VC radio

I used to race it every week

Nice!
