Who's in to electric RC cars?

anyone had any experiences with importing RC Cars into the UK?

going back to Philippines next month and thinking of getting the RC there but was also wondering if i have to pay any custom fees when i get back to the UK.

also, is HSP a good brand of RC Cars?

Customs are **** hot on import duty at the moment if you're doing it by post but chances are you'll get it through if it's in a suitcase.

yeah, i was thinking that, especially around the olympics time, securities will be very tight when coming back.

what is the worst that could happen if they notice the RC?
fine/fee(how much?) or the RC taken off me never to be seen again :o

what about Maverick, read that they are rebranded HPIs?

maverick are hpi's budget brand and their pretty decent, i have a maverick atom with a 6000 kv motor and 2s lipos :)

i also keep wanting the 600 pound odd maverick black out 1/5th scale monster truck thats in my local model shop :)

any one thats gettign a first rc car get a buggy preferably 2 wheel drive so you can rip on tarmac and off road while learning throttle control on corners, meh thats how i started out :)

any reason for a 2WD?
i though 4WD were easier to control.

yep thats why i would go 2wd for my first one as you will develop better skills and throttle management more around corners etc plus they can be a lot of fun on loose ground, eg trying to get it to go in a straight line lol

i still love my traxxas bandit and tamiya sand viper just because of their rough handling i find them more fun than 4wd a lot of the time, also there is less to go wrong with a 2wd one :)

its all just preferance as i use both 4wd and 2wd, and i find 2wd more of a challenge :)

I've had my car for about 4 days now.

First day that I had the entire lot, including batteries and all that.
Broke it!

Now I have changed the parts I broke, I think the pinion gear came loose from the spur gear, tore a few teeth off the gear.

Bought a few spares at 3 quid each now. Here's waiting until Wednesday to actually have a proper go.

To be fair, I've learned a lot about these, watching youtube videos and finding out how to make them better/faster/higher top speed 'n all.

Enjoying playing with them at the moment!

Had the car going for about 2 minutes.

Was going about 15MPH~... Car rolled on the tarmac... Broken another plastic part (Rear Wishbone).

I think I'm going to have to change all the normal plastic parts from standard to RPM versions. I hear these are stronger?

Anyone know if that's true?

I've not had an issue with the standard parts on the rusty, just the steering blocks. They're known as a weak part anyway. Which part of the wishbone is broken? Any chance you could post a pic?

To be honest, I wish it was a big tumble but it wasn't :(
I'm going to revert back to the smaller stock tyres after I get some new wishbones.

I think it's best i switch them all out to get rid of this pain in the ass every time I try and have a go with it!

RPM stuff is great and I always replace broken stuff with RPM if available. Just don't use RPM stuff with steel cvds etc.
All 6 of my cars are currently broken. I have all the parts to fix/upgrade them but just can't be arsed for some reason.... Need a nice sunny day so I can sit in the garden at the table and do the repairs.

Going on a holiday to centre parcs next week and wondering if they will allow me to quietly use my Slash 4x4 just around our Lodge... Hmmmn?

haha yeah why not, electric are quiet and not causing any harm! I've had my car 2 weeks now, I've had about 4-5 mins of actual play time. I'm hoping these are the last dodgy parts I needed to change. The car was 2nd hand so may have had hell of a bashing in its past!

I've got about three cars worth of Losi XXX-S spares if anyone needs anything for their car? I'm selling up most of what I have to fund a new car and kit.
