Why do people cheat in games?

Older gamer here. I’ve never cheated at a game online. Years back I was given abuse on BF2 for being nothing more than good at the vanilla game. “Your cheating” “ No one gets that amount of kills” Etc. One guy did give me good advice saying try BF2 PR Mod which took the game up to a whole new level and I was crap again. God I enjoyed getting to grips with PR.

Not played online for years but hope to get into Dayz. If you cheat in such a game your just cheating yourself in my book. If you did not kill due to skill or tactical knowledge or just plain luck then you’re a “Prat” Cheating to get an edge is not winning it just shows you cant play to a decent level.

I think the most hacking goes on in console games rather than PC.

Absolutely not, while it is possible on consoles despite some people being adamant that consoles are cheat free, it's definitely a lot harder to do whereas on PC for most games it's downloading a file, double clicking it and bobs your uncle.

you wont - it's god awful!

It depends whether you consider the use of a gadget that allows you to use a kb/mouse on console cheating. Personally I think it is if it actually works.

I used to get it a lot - I'm pretty average as a gamer but between having been playing FPS games online pretty much since online multiplayer first existed (so a lot of experience to draw from) and a bit of a freak at the original DOD (not so much DOD:S sadly) and COD4/MW2 so would get a lot of hacking accusation in those games - especially when sitting at 200+ kills in a round on DOD heh.

I think its just laziness, they can't be bothered to put the effort into learning how to do something well, so they just take a shortcut straight to the rewards. I think the fun is in the learning rather than the rewards most of the time so cheating would be pointless.

Rroff, i know what ya mean about cheat accusations, after playing against decent players most the time in CS if ya ever joined a normal public server the cheat accusations would come in thick and fast, a few well timed wallbangs later and you would be banned and have to move onto the next one. We would just take it as a compliment though rather than get annoyed.

Would you like to see a video of cheaters in war thunder? they plague the entire game lol. I will trust you a video if you want so you can see it. I would not want to post publicly as it's a company i regularly check to see if they have hacks available for games so i can be sure if it's possible people are cheating or not. And would not like to advertise them in any way at all as i would not want anyone buying out of " curiosity "

any chance of sending me that link please?

got it through - probably wont be able to watch till I'm home though, works internet doesn't play nice with youtube :(

cheers

Can you send me the links via trust? I'd be interested in seeing the WT hacks, doesn't overly surprise me to be honest.

I've been on the receiving end of an awful lot of "wtf?" moments lately, especially being abused by Pz3's 50mm gun against my KV-1!

Can't you don't have trust set up & as i said in my first post about it i really don't want to be throwing the links around all over the place as i don't want to be considered to be advertising them or anything.

i'll have to inspect them closer but actually having watched one on my phone I don't see what they are actually doing? - admittedly I'm watching with the sound turned down so maybe there is an explanation taking place, but I don't see any obvious auto aiming or such as I would expect if those were genuine hacks. is it possible that folk are paying for nothing more than a skin job on the enemy planes - certainly looks like it.

that said these are just my initial thoughts - i'll look closer when I'm at home

It's fairly serious aimbotting from what I can tell. Unsure how much assistance is being provided beyond an additional "circle" of where to aim, but it may be leading the plane itself onto the exact point to aim at.

Either way, it blows Gaijin's claim of "no hax bro" clean out of the water, which is a shame because that's the only thing they do/say in regard to hackers. (i.e. it costs money to find, code, and defeat hacks, so they're not going to bother)

If they're the ones on a public, open forum, easily obtained and youtube videos abound of them, what's to stop there being hacks which modify the damage potential of your tank shell to say... that of a KV-2?

Used to be rife in Unreal Tournament back when I played, was quite amusing as an instagibber as the people who botted could usually be beaten by a good player. Also as soon as anyone got any good at it, the first thing that was usually screamed was "aimbot". I remember getting huge abuse during a CTF game on maul I think, after getting godlike and a few monster kills, just because I was playing a huge amount at the time and most of the players on publics were useless.

I've never understood aimbotting, must suck the fun completely out of the games.

to be honest, I'd have serious concerns about someone who previously had actively gone and bought/used a cheat in a game, irrespective of their claimed reasoning for doing so. that said of course there are those who try one just to see what the fuss is about and ditch it as quickly as they started.

but someone who has used cheats for any length of time, I would worry that they've enjoyed the perceived buzz and would be more likely to cheat again as opposed to someone who has never cheated.

edit: out of curiosity, what was this game?

Thats fair enough I guess. I'm not sure where I'd fall in that then.

The game was iGunz. No idea why, but I included more info below.
Found a video of somebody hacking in the single player mode. The yellow thing took a few seconds for your person to charge then when you hit attack it would appear and vanished pretty quick. They used to run around in multiplayer basically having a snake of thing spamming around them

It's interesting to see what people classify as cheating and how it should be dealt with.

Edit:
To add, what do people think the hackusation to real cheaters ratio is?

will do, as I said watching them on the phone may not give the clearest view of what's actually happening

I would post on the official gaijin forums but they may have banned me - can't for the life of me think why!

Mention any kind of cheating on their forums or the steam ones gets you an insta ban

no offence but that game looks like the biggest pile of horse poop! :p

now that's a good question as you hear hacks being called nearly every minute of every online game!

I always loved being accused of cheating, I saw it as a compliment. Any time I was banned I could always dispute it easily and have it reversed.

It is only recently I haven't been able to tolerate the sheer amount of cheaters. I played BF4 a lot but with the free gametime the amount of cheaters simply sky rocketed.
