Why do people cheat in games?

one shot kills through smoke is actually relatively easy if you get your timings right - especially at lower levels where the guy chucking the smoke nade to cover a narrow door opening follows through as soon as the smoke appears - done a few of those myself (and been on the receiving end :()

that said the video you're talking about (if it's the same one I'm thinking on) did look a bit sus, but then he could have just gotten lucky. or he could have been posting the video in the off chance someone from the forums got it on overwatch and would give him the benefit of the doubt ;)

IIRC, the video that I watched, the smoke had been allowed to cover the entrance/doorway and the suspect waited for a second or 2 before headshotting the guy at the other end, I think he was using that new OP/broken weapon too, the revolver that has the trigger delay?

Like I said, it could just be luck or/and pure skill, although it happened way too often to be considered luck imo and I think he said that video was all from 1 round too? Generally when you see good 4-5 minute FPS compilations, it is taken from 5+ rounds of footage.

yea that's the one - it was the R8 revolver which was almost as powerful as an AWP on release ( if not more powerful!!) but that's usually the trick to it - let smoke fill - count a couple of seconds and pop off a couple of rounds into the smoke. reason I thought it looked sus was that he was being rather precise with his aiming into the smoke - almost as if he knew where they would be. that and the fact as you say he claimed it was all in a single round. seemed every time he saw smoke he pumped someone in it

I thought he only fired 1 shot and got headshots each time too? If he had an ak, m4 etc. and just sprayed every where then that is what I consider luck but as you said, his aiming seemed to be too precise etc.

Maybe he just has a really good sound system :p

That guy in question in the CSGO thread ended up with a minorly disruptive ban for griefing apparently.

It was hard to say from the video but I thought it was dodgy as well, happened way too many times in 1 round.

I started watching a YouTube series called 'CS:GO Overwatch' the hacking is insane! But incredibly funny to watch :D

But yes, never understood the need to hack/exploit games.

Each to their own I guess

can't remember if they were all headshots - if they were then I'd go out and limb and say definite cheater! if they weren't all headshots the problem is that when the R8 was first released it was basically a one shot one kill weapon until they nerfed it

The only thing worse than cheaters on a paid game, are cheaters on a F2P game. There is literally ZERO at risk for them if/when they get their account banned. An example of this is Planetside 2. I started getting into it again last night, but one guy decided it would be fun to go under the map and wipe out the entire team defending an outpost. All was going well until this idiot came along.

I have to admit though, I've rarely seen cheating in PS2. I just hope this was a one off thing and not a new trend since I've been away from the game. I've seen the odd aim botter here and there in the past, but a lot of them are just plain awful at the game anyway and still lose the majority of the time!

My only defense (other than it was fun to annoy them) was that it was a free to play game without anticheat. Plus it had no effect on legit players.

i'll quote myself again here
a cheat to counter a cheat is still a cheat ;)

there is no real excuse/defense to using a cheat. what if everyone online who encountered a cheat took the same attitude - if cheating is bad now in that scenario it would be a 1000 times worse.

if the game was so loaded with cheaters then perhaps you would have been better placed to find another game experience. the problem is that many folk are of the opinion that 'once a cheat always a cheat' and I don't mean in the relationship kind of way!

if someone has been tempted to cheat and given in to that urge - irrespective of their reasoning - then there's a good chance they will do the same again. the will just come up with a different excuse next time round to justify using the cheat

I'll be honest , I did Cheat in CS 1.6 years ago for a short period , To be honest I didn't need to because I was above average at the game and use to play it everyday for months on end , I even played in ranked matches on-line and one day out of the blue people started screaming wall hack , aim bot and I was like WTF are they talking about ? So I looked online and was like well I'm going to try this myself , I come across this website that said about a wallhack downloaded the aim bot and tried it out , I felt bad every time I used it in games but I kinda enjoyed kicking everyone ass at the same time and found it fun more than anything , so there you go it was fun at the time , but then as with everything you get bored and I've not cheated in an on-line game since but I can kinda understand why people do it... I just wanted to see for myself what it does, people still use them in all shooting games but the only person they are cheating is them selfs , I play online games fair and when I win or kick ass I feel good knowing I have done it fairly. hope this helps .

why did you enjoy 'kicking everyone's ass' it wasn't you kicking their ass it was the hack? this is the bit I just don't understand. you weren't kicking anything - the cheat was doing all the hard work for you, I just don't get how you or anyone can enjoy that.

I've had to mute someone before on TS because all they did was constantly moan about other players and the game.

"Shot me through smoke how did he know I was there"
"obviously cheating"
"WHAT WAS NOBODY COVERING THAT?"
"team mates are rubbish and can't hold anything"

Surprisingly, after muting him I enjoyed the game a lot more and didn't actually miss out on anything really important.

Offline, I do it all the time. I get bored and don't have the time to play very often.

Online though. No. Played far to many years of 1.6 to annoy others with that.

I enjoyed the game and just wanted to play despite people trying to ruin it. Not long after that first cheat was out, hackers wiped the accounts of logged in players.. then a bit after that they crashed the servers. Thats when i left for another game.
Do you think once used a cheat always a cheat?

Cheating in online games is disgusting. Anyone caught should be banned from playing any game online. All these cheating little tards do is ruin the game for everyone one else.

Cheating in single player games is fine... you are only trashing the game for yourself.

Basically this.

Single player, the likes of GTA V I added a bit so even though I made a load on the stocks. This meant I could have a free reign over wasting piles of cash. Other games I play often just have a sandbox mode to use for similar effect.

(I've done a search as I'm sure its been discussed already but couldnt find it)

Why on earth do people cheat in online games?

I can understand cheating in a real life situation to increase reward but why cheat when what there is no real reward?

I just can't get my head around the need to inflate my stats artificially.

Only reason I ask is I just played a match against a squad of aimbotters shooting me across the map in rainbow six. So the inevitable rage quit led to this query.

Feel free to talk hypothetically if you use them yourselves.

There's a lot of ******s who play video games mate, some have no doubt read your thread, just the way the world spins.

I reckon most of the proper cheaters get more enjoyment out of winding people up than they do from actually being better in terms of meaningless numbers.

I dont mind a bit of cheating in context, but never online, but things like speed leveling for games that take a long time i can stand, smithing in skyrim is a good example as there's only so many times you can grind to make 2k iron daggers before it gets tedious

to be honest, I'd have serious concerns about someone who previously had actively gone and bought/used a cheat in a game, irrespective of their claimed reasoning for doing so. that said of course there are those who try one just to see what the fuss is about and ditch it as quickly as they started.

but someone who has used cheats for any length of time, I would worry that they've enjoyed the perceived buzz and would be more likely to cheat again as opposed to someone who has never cheated.

edit: out of curiosity, what was this game?

When I used to play Delta Force 2 I figured out that you could kill the 'knife' hackers by prone jumping backwards and knifing thin air. They'd still get me most of the time but I'd always get the satisfaction of taking down a hacker.

CS Source I used a hostage as a human shield vs an aimbotter on Italy haha.

Cheating is pretty lame.
