WikiLeaks Set To Reveal US-UFO War In Southern Ocean

I genuinely don't understand the "I believe" or the "I don't believe" camp tbh. Both approach it with an almost religious blind faith that what they believe is correct and are totally un-accepting of any evidence that counters their belief system.

Its bonkers and neither side can take the moral high ground either as they both display the same close mindedness as each other.

In nature, the universe and to an extent science pretty much anything goes. There are surprises around every corner for us and to think that we know it all is folly. I realised this a long long time ago and it was that realising that lead me to adopt a fortean approach to it, Sure its a little sitting on the fence and involves some moderate scepticism but it allows me the freedom to read with interest pretty much any subject without having to place myself in one camp or the other. Paranormal stuff be it true or a load of rubbish, for me is still one of the most compelling and interesting subjects ever.

Exactly how I feel about the subject. There were some pretty big science stories this year alone that show we really haven't got a clue how it all works. To be honest, I think the real nature of "it" all is way beyond our pitiful understanding. We're pretty much a goldfish in a bowl in the grand scheme of things, in terms of our understanding of the big picture.

Is my sarcasm detector off or are we going with a thread of daft statements?

There's plenty of evidence to say otherwise. As your own link points out, a lot was realised years ago that depended on the earth being round, e.g. star based navigation.

As said, it was something much later which has given the modern day urban myth that people en masse didn't think/believe the earth was not round.

Edit - here you go, I presume if you take Wiki as a source of information then QI shouldn't be an issue (:p) :

Perhaps more important than that... does it matter?

ABSOLUTELY.
I want to believe and I've chased UFO/Alien stories for 39 years.
I can't wait for the day when SETI announces a genuine transmission but I'm getting older and sadly it's more than likely won't happen before I die.

I 100% believe there is life on other planets, complex life at that. I do not believe there is any realistic chance of intelligient life in the way humans are though.

Think about it - how many species on this planet, how many are intelligient? How much archeology is dug up that shows advanced tool use by anything other than human like creatures?

Dolphins, I mean, seriously, they're fun but they won't be bouncing back seti messages anytime soon will they.

Well in evolutionary terms they're really just where we were not so long ago, maybe a few hundred thousand to a million years ago.

I doubt that, cetaceans are far older evolutionary speaking than Mankind. They had left, lived and re-entered the oceans before our ancestors were even thought of.

We, in our arrogance assume Dolphins (especially the bottle-nose) are the lesser species as regards intellectual capacity. In fact we have no real way to indicate that either way.

Bottle nose Dolphins have used tools and have a very sophisticated social structure, they engage in play, aggressive acts for no reason and there is some evidence that they attack and kill porpoises for what appears to be fun. They have a sophisticated language of sorts and evidence that they have individual 'names' and are 'self aware', something previously only seen in humanity.

Very interesting creatures, I wouldn't be surprised if they are the more intelligent considering our track-record on stupidity.

Bloody typical, let me guess they're going to all attack us on friday the 13th january 2012? And gosh its not majick hehe

None of them have opposable thumbs, i really think this is more important in evolutiory terms than intelligence, with out them. Our intelligence would be pointless and we woukd look like every other basic tool using animal.

People also get caught up with distances, that is maybe ghe esier problem than time. Our earlues radio waves have travelled pretty mu h nothing of our own galaxy let alo others. The universe is billions of years old, the chance of two civilisations being ar a similar stages remote enough then you have distance. Even if we heard something, the message would be thousands or more likely millions of years old.

I think that appreciating that things do not necessarily evolve towards higher complexity is a good thing thing to be aware of. If it fits the niche, it will evolve further towards that niche. Human evolution is absolutely extraordinary it's not surprising that some people say we are not animals.

Although purely speculative, I would say that for every million planets out there that are similar to earth, only one of them will have anything close to resembling the intelligence and social interactions of humans, if that.

People always talk about dolphins being super intelligent, great you can click in something that may be in some way a form of communication better than every other animals, but look at termites and ants, they build colonies and towers that are skyscrapers to them and they farm, the have ventilation shafts and heating.

They're ****ing smart if I see flipper build a farm maybe just maybe I'll think of him as something other than a sandwich waiting to happen.

Apes have opposing thumbs and their intelligent. Nature could invent allsorts of limbs to use tools we had yet to imagine.
I believe life is prevalent throughout the Universe and far more advanced than we could ever reach, where little more than advanced apes, still killing each other for petty reasons.
