It depends entirely on context.

Given that was at an official meeting, I'm guessing what he was saying was nothing too surprising.
Pretty much any politician in their last term in office will try and do things they might not have done before because it affects their chances of re-election even if it's in the countries best interest (they tend to do things like issue more pardons, be more outspoken about controversial topics and generally aim to do more without having to worry about re-election).

Trump's people on the other hand were having meetings with Russian government agents in secret and denying it all, then changing their stories repeatedly when they were found out to be lying.

It's almost as bad as some of the Trump supporters saying "well Hillary met the Russians" referring to meetings with full staffs and press present, compared to some of Trump's team meeting with Russians in hotel rooms where their own communications showed the meetings were expected to be in breach of US laws.

Plus

A) This was widely reported by the MSM
B) Obama was actually President of the the USA when this (official) meeting took place. Trump was not President when unofficial meetings of members of his campaign team with Russians allegedly took place.

Why do the Left suddenly hate Russia? An about turn has occurred by the Left, form citing Red this and that as all that is Communist Holy, to a rabid hatred.

The point is not advocacy of friendship or alliance with Putin’s Russia, and certainly not a renewal of the failed Obama-Clinton reset. Instead, we should be open to a realist understanding that on occasion we might cooperate with Russia both to avoid a nightmarish Armageddon and to solve rare common problems. Putin Is Putin Is Putin In the 2016 campaign, Trump bluntly alluded to all that — an effort that came back to haunt him in 2017 under the progressives’ wolf-calling of “collusion.” Yet we now find ourselves in a strange and dangerous rivalry to see which political party can outdo the other in its public loathing of a nuclear and angry Russia. The new progressive hatred of Russia is baffling. Of course, Vladimir Putin is a thug and a killer who in the grand tradition of Russian autocracy has no intention ever of holding free elections. But he is perhaps no more a murderer than are the Castro brothers in Cuba, with whom we have concluded a détente and who have no arsenal capable of destroying the U.S. Putin is no more or less trustworthy than are the Iranians, with whom in 2015 we cut a deal on nuclear proliferation and who are far more likely than the Russians to send a nuclear missile into Israel someday. Putin’s brutal suppression of the press recalls the ongoing repression by President Recep Erdogan of Turkey — a linchpin member of NATO. There is no freedom in China. The Communists still in control have the blood of 50 million Chinese dead on their hands from Mao’s brutal revolutions and genocides. Yet we enjoy all sorts of cultural, political, and economic bipartisan relationships with China, whose nuclear patronage of North Korea has done more damage to U.S. security than any plot from the dark mind of Vladimir Putin. In terms of Russia’s macabre history, Putin is a piker compared with Soviet Premier Joseph Stalin, who may have orchestrated the deaths of 20 million Russians. After December 1941, the United States concluded a “Big Three” wartime pact with Stalin and supplied 20 percent of the Soviet Union’s wartime resources and arms — some of it later lavishly recycled to post-war Communist uprisings around the globe.

The latter part of the above post is taken from a recent National Review article

This thread amuses me. The mother of all wiki leaks dump is meant to happen.. it doesn't. Instead there is some other article that is released that casts doubt over those on power at the time. All of this is ignored and any discussion on the rights or wrongs of the article is ignored, in fact the whole article is ignored and everyone just bitch fights over who is worse, trump or Clinton... They are both useless, get over it. Is the article by the hill not actually of any importance?

And "the left" the left of what?
Rabid Republicans, the left of Democrats? Left of the Conservative party? Left of the Libdems? Left of the Labour Party? Left of the Socialist party?

I love the way "The left" has come to mean anyone who is not a certain type of Republican for some, a bit like referring to members of the Republican party who have been in it and were considered radical/extreme members 25 years ago are now called "rino's" by some of the new generation of extreme republicans because they're to the left of them.

Pretty much everyone in British politics is "the left" compared to US democrats, let alone Republican mainstream members.
It's an utterly stupid phrase.

Phew, what a vitriolic rant, I hate to think what you have to utter about the new Austrian leader Sebastian Kurz or that similarly nicely coiffured Geert Wilders in the Netherlands :)

Have they also made comments about wanting to date their daughters and how they sexually assault women?

It's astonishing that Prezzie Two Scoops - famed vagina grabber, liar, daughter-lover, failed businessman, and all round filthy piece of crap - has brokebrains defending his awfulness whilst obsessing over a failed Presidential runner who is of no political consequence at all anymore.

It's genuinely baffling.

Brokebrains :D

That is an awesome description that deserves more use :p

This thread is great at highlighting a lot of the unhinged paranoid types and the guys with deep seated prejudices.

Next time i make an account on OCuk forum i may try and roll a different kind of character. Bigot or tinfoil hat wearers seem like the most fun classes to play now the recent Trump presidency patch has been released!

The left in todays context, means "left of centre" Where centre is like a neutral type of political thinking.

Then people are using it incorrectly all the time, as the way it used here on OCuk, you would think Pinochet is bang in the middle...

The sort of people who use 'the left' like some sort of boogeyman phrase in politics are the same ones that were trying to convince people that Bernie is trying to lead a red uprising. The truth is, the people who use the term use it like some sort of derogatory slur and though they believe that their viewpoint is politically centred, it is actually way, way that wayyy --------->
