Will Smith hits Chris Rock on Oscars stage

Instead of slapping Chris rock, I would have grabbed the mic off of him and busted out a few of my own joke's about her Lol.

How is Will Smith still married to this toxic woman...

He would more justified in slapping his wife than Chris Rock. Will Smith is being humiliated.

He's no idol of mine, but I'm of the generation that have grown up watching / listening to his shows, movies and music. It's sad to see. :(

i think the days of Ricky Gervais Et al hosting anything are from today over.
say anything about me or my team, i'm coming up.

If I was out with my wife and Statham called her an ugly **** I’d give him a smack in the mouth even if I knew only too well that his minders would kick the carp out of me

But that wasn't the case. You've tried to make some sort of comparison and then failed at it. Don't you agree that your comparison, on reflection, doesn't match the situation here? This would be a better one. Your wife has a funny voice that's all robotic, you go to a comedy club, sit front row. Comedian known for making light jokes at the crowds expense, the comedian, hearing your wife's voice, makes a joke about it and moves on. You then would get on the stage and hit that comedian? You see how it's different to your example of seeing someone on the street and them calling your misses and ugly cow?

So we can mock common things? Incontinence in women after child birth is quite common, that seems like a good place to start! Have at it boys

It is a good point. Jada even said all you can do is laugh about it. Why didn't she defend herself if it was called for?

Light releif from Ukraine and hyperinflation for a news cycle.

You may have nailed it.

I think will is a broken man and sadly his wife has everything to blame for that I think... Poor bloke. Being at the top wont be easy

One thing to remember is that will may have been under pressure due to his heightened expectations of finally getting an Oscar. Could have been on drugs etc as often they are for shows like this. He also seems to have family stuff going on that he isn't able to deal with. Rocks comment perhaps was the straw that broke the glass ceiling.

Reminds me...

You left out an important part of that, its common in old age yes but how many middle aged women do you know with alopecia? I couldn't name all the men I know but not one of my female friends has it that I'm aware of.

Apparently traction alopecia is highly prevalent in black women due to their tight hair styles, braiding and chemicals used from a young age. There are a huge amount of articles on it. I found out about it years ago when I was dating a black woman and there was a joke about it on Family Guy and I asked her why it was. She explained and also told me that her mum wanted her to get tight braids etc from a young age but her grandma put a stop to it because of both her grandma and mother both suffered from it and wore wigs/weaves from in their late 20s/early 30s. Have you never wondered why there are quite a few wig shops in most major cities that are predominantly frequented by black women?

Surely the best punishment would be to give his Oscar to someone else? Especially so since it's his only one.

To let it go unpunished would effectively be condoning further violence at these events.

Chris Rock has declined to file a complaint / report, thats why.

i may be wrong but, uk and usa police mostly prosocute with enough evidence,
regardless about the victim (victims sometimes dead) im very much not and expert
on usa law but there were about 200million+? witnesess last night.

Is the joke bad taste? Yes
Did Will Smith laugh about it? Yes
Is it okay to hit someone over a joke? No.

But you are saying yes, because the joke is mocking his wife. Is that the line is it? that it is okay to resort to violence when a woman's hairline is the subject, what's next? all jokes banned? Because most humour comes from an element of truth, that's why it is funny. Someone will be at the firing line of it. The context here is the her illness is not a secret, the context here is that she is open about it, the context here is that she has previously said on social media that "they can make fun about it now", it being her baldness.

So Chris Rock did, and didn't even mention the illness, just a quick GI Jane reference.

But, what you are saying is that violence is fine when it comes to your wife's illness, one which she is open about it, one where she "invited" the joke herself.

Am I reading that right?
No you are not reading that right. In fact I specifically say I don't condone Will Smith's actions.

While not condoning Will Smith's actions, if you mock a mans wife for her medical problem then this is the risk you take.

Saying it is a risk Chris Rock took, and suggesting violence is an acceptable course of action, are not the same things. Furthermore I agreed in post #162 with another users post in #161 that violence is not acceptable.

People on YouTube analysing the slap and claiming it didn't hit, or only partially hit. Something else to debate about for another decade plus.
