Windows 10 Game Mode these results look promising

I noticed Hitman was performing far better than when I last played it, to the point where I was running 4k/Ultra and average framerate was in the 70's!

It's been a few months since I last tried it though so that might have been improved DX12 mGPU performance or better Nvidia drivers, as opposed to the creator update having a big impact.

don't forget to us Windows Key+G and select "game mode" once you're in a game. Windows struggle to recognise a game as a game generally so you have to activate it the first time once you're in game.

Whether it makes much difference or not is another matter but I guess it all helps..

mm nice would this also effect Oculus Rift ?

Will give this try later.

Hey,

So i updated to the Creators update that went live today I took some benches before
same save location same timeframe running around nilfgaurd camp

PC Spec Background
5930K @ 4.0
1080Ti - 3440x1440

Before
Witcher 3 Maxed settings (Hairworks AA set to 4x not 8)
Lowest FPS 55
Average: 70
High: 83

After
Witcher 3
Lowest FPS 57
Average: 80
High: 102

not a huge difference but, a nice boost

That's a 10%+ difference, I'd say it's huge.

Tried it out tonight and not impressed at all:

1. no idea if it was working or not because I could only get the "game bar" to come up in one game, watch dogs 2, however, I couldn't hide/show rivatuner OSD when it was enabled for WD 2 and this was the same for every other game... so I'm guessing due to "game mode" freezing unnecessary programs in the background, this was stopping me from hiding/showing rivatuner's OSD in those other games too....
2. I saw no FPS boost in any game (star wars battlefront, gta 5, far cry primal, assassins creed unity) except 3 fps extra in WD 2

Damn. I would have thought with a potato system like yours, game mode would have had a big benefit :p;)

haha likewise, I guess my system must be beefy enough after all if this doesn't give any improvements! :D :p

I can see what microsoft are trying to do and it certainly has a lot of potential, however, I imagine that it will also be down to the game developers to optimise the games on their end too.... Hopefully we will see a whitelist function for game mode in the future too as not being able to toggle the OSD on the fly is a huge annoyance.

Oh well, I shall just continue to manually tweak my games to get better graphics and FPS than just using "the zOMG ULTRA MAX preset" :p ;) :D

surely the boost is going to be based less on your hardware and more on how much cack you have in the background as a percentage of your available power?

if you're conscientious enough in ensuring you keep background stuff to a minimum, then you'll see minimum gains regardless of your rig spec.

True that. I have very little installed on my PC, let alone much at all running in the background.

Hmm, having a slightly different issue with the creative update, every game is crashing the PC -.-
Get about a second of the game appearing then a black screen, can't tab and reset doesn't work. Have to power off/on. Got the latest drivers and even tried turning off the game mode and dvr recording.

Nice gains there. Something I will keep an eye on. Does it help for synthetic benches like 3DMark Smogsy?

It will likely benefit synthetics more than real world games due to the way synthetics are designed to fully use the hardware. This will open up more headroom for it to use the hardware. Similar to seeing the hard core benchmarking groups using super old windows with everything stripped off it to get as much of the hardwares potential into the hands of the synthetic.

Nice gains there, I haven't tried it out in game yet, just been turning off all the recording stuff that I don't need.

So in most of my games Win+G doesn't want to open and I can't see a anyway to manually add a game.
