Windows 10

Anybody getting "out of memory" errors?

Running 10049 here and with just skype, chorme (10 tabs) and sometimes RDP, I'm getting "out of memory - close apps" error all the time...

This is with 4gb, never had this with Win8.1

What does the memory usage in Task Manager look like?

Out of Memory could be a hundred things, not just the obvious!

but MS has said the upgrade is via windows updates, they haven't said anything about if they will release a iso.

i can't see how they'll do it because surely after the year they'll remove the upgrade via windows updates so people that didn't upgrade with that year would have to pay. or another way is if people want to take the free upgrade offer they have to fill in a form then it gives them a file to install so window 10 will appear in windows updates but even that way people could just share the file

Why are you so hung up on there needing to be an ISO? Buying windows does not mean your buying the files on a disk. Your buying a key. The media is completely irrelevant. If you take the free upgrade in the 1st year you will then have a valid W10 key from then on. Simple as that. What exactly are you imagining Microsoft will then want to force you to pay for?

Without an ISO it's a bit of a pain in the bum if you need to re-install the operating system. Take my Surface Pro for example. To install a clean copy of Windows 8.1 with the update (assuming no ISO) : I'd have to restore back to the factory image of Windows 8 (well out of date when it shipped having sat on a shelf in a warehouse for 11 months). Apply a metric **** ton of updates to enable the Windows 8.1 install via the store. Then apply another metric **** ton of windows updates to get the seven that comprise Windows 8.1 with the update.

There's no straight path - they're trying to push everything via the store or Windows update.

10056 has been leaked, subtle changes but ui looks much better.

Oh and MS and Miele have signed a new partnership to make smart appliances with IoT.
Hopefully more will sign on.

At idle right now with two chrome windows and around 20 tabs total, word and skype or windows running at 81% usage... soon it will spike and give me the error...

I agree the 'official' method is a PITA, especially if you buy a computer that comes without any recovery media, but its still possible.

Gareth seems to be paranoid that after a year the Windows update will be pulled from the update servers and put behind a pay wall, which it won't.

Just like the W8 pre order update, all that will happen is the price will change. Nobody who bought W8 updates cheap on pre order was then asked to pay again once it went up to full price.

It's all a moot point anyway as I'm 100% certain there will be an ISO from MS. And if there isn't then there will be ISOs available through other means.

If you take the free update you will not be charged for W10 after a year. I guarantee it.

has there been any costs of buying windows 10 yet?

I have a old laptop I want to upgrade to 10 but its on XP so doesn't get the chance to upgrade for free so would be interesting to see how much it would cost to buy a copy

If the hardware is running XP, then it's likely not going to run Windows 10 well mainly due to lack of driver support.

MS won't pull it. They'll likely issue a product code which will be tagged to your Store account if it's like the Windows 8 upgrade. Will be interesting to see if they distinguish between retail and OEM upgrades.

Unsure on the status of Windows ISOs. Nearest point of reference is Windows 8.1 with the update. They originally said the update had to be installed via Windows Update/WSUS after the base Windows 8.1 install. Then after the volume license customers expressed their dissatisfaction an integrated ISO appeared. Unsure if the ISOs are readily available for retail customers.

just a quick note for anyone upgrading a tablet.

i updated by acer iconia tab w700 last week. but for some reason i couldnt get bluetooth working which means no keyboard. i did a backup first but win10 wont let you restore a win8 system image.

so, messing about trying to get hold of a usb recovery usb key.

so, just be warned... my tablet was a pain in the arse on win10. also removed all my metro apps etc. i thought the metro apps would be the bit that kept working?!?! i rarely use them but my son uses them a lot.

Out of interest, has anyone had an issue with windows 10 flickering at the log in screen, and completely screwing over any chance of logging in?

Early builds use to lockup the display on my work laptop with Intel integrated graphics, changing the monitor from PnP to something else normally fixed it, can you get in safe mode?

I've tried, but absolutely no joy; usually I've gotten frustrated and rolled back to 8.1; I've tried disconnecting two of my displays, I've even tried just keeping the stock nvidia drivers for my 970's, but nothing seems to work.

The last build I got that issue on was...10036? 39? one of the two.

I still don`t like the fact that they are only giving us an upgrade instead of the full thing for free.

What happens if we are moving to a new computer. Does that mean we have to install our existing
Windows 7 or 8 bought copy on the new machine first then install Windows 10 using the upgrade ISO?

Me personally, I would much prefer the full thing instead of having to go through these
steps just to install Windows 10 for free.

You're getting it for free, why are you complaining at all?

I just don't see why they can't just give us the full version for free. They could have just set up a validation system on their
site where you can give proof that you own your own valid bought copy of Windows 7 or Windows 8 and then if you pass
validation, they send you a Windows 10 product key along with a dl link to the official windows 10 full ISO.

Just can't please some people!

It will take you an extra 10 minutes, not perfect, but it looks like a very good os for nothing.

I'm pretty sure you will have that option later on anyway
