Windows 10

Been having no end of problems with my laptop running 10 of late. Outlook 2013 constantly crashing, also had a few menus just disappear or system lookups. It was running great till the last major update. Just stuck 8.1 back on it until 10 is released.

It probably makes sense. RC1 is due for release soon, so it won't be far off release.

ah nice one, never considered that! cheer bud

No? Anyone with an answer to the font rendering and DPI scaling question?

you can now choose the % to upscale. i had it at 200% on my netbook last night. looked odd on a 1024x600 screen lol.

didnt have steam on there as i know that can be a bit wonky with high DPI. i use high DPI on my tablet and HTPC so i know the frustration you can have. i might stick win10 on my HTPC over weekend and report back.

If you install a clean install onto a machine that has a key in UEFI and its the correct version of Windows for that key it will be automatically detected and you won't be prompted for a key. I would hope this translates to W10 too, I.e. the W10 installer os aware of the format of valid W8/8.1 keys.

My HP Stream 7 has a UEFI key so I'll test it out as soon as the update is available, although it's Windows with Bing so I might have to wait for a torrented ISO (with Bing is only available to OEMs)

Should do. Windows 7/8 Enterprise at work ceases to function after 90 days if it doesn't find a valid qualifying key in the BIOS/UEFI. We've had the odd problem with replacement laptop mainboards having firmware without the correct SLIC table.

Is this worth updating to from 8.1? How do you go about it?

I did it, just downloaded the ISO, stuck it on a pendrive and installed over the top f win8.1, had a few too many problems though, so fresh install time.

now I'm still having the usual niggles but trying to hang on until the official release without reverting back to win 8.1 :D

That webpage is severely screwed formatting wise.
Don't get to excited, I can't read what ever you've linked. But that will be RTM, so actual release in ~October as RTM is generally 3 months before general release. Gives time for PEMs to finally products, get them made and shipped to stores.

Edit - site now working, as above.

Website renders fine in Firefox.

anyone else find the syncing between all machines a bit annoying?

i now have 3 machines with win10 on and every time i change something on one it updates all the rest. bit annoying. also, since i installed all this my win8.1 tablet seems to spend a lot more time syncing stuff in the store, even though i havent added any new apps

Turn it off then. You can chose what does/doesn't sync on each device. I have mine set to sync the looks and feel, but not apps.

This is in W8 and 8.1 too.

Trying to install Win10 on my laptop in vmware player but it won't see my drives.

Tried it on my local SSD which has win8.1 on (OCZ Agility 3) and my external HDD Seagate slimline 2tb but it doesn't recognise the drivers for either.....any ideas?

No, it's fantastic.
If you don't want certain things go to settings and disable what you dont want syncing. It's the same as w8

Ah, I am getting mixed messages from the latest build now... Im trying and failing to get it to boot from USB onto my main Laptop ( to try out dual graphics - it failed to let me switch over to nVidia the last time I tried, even though I was able to install both Intel and nV drivers ), and my baby box ( naff ITX setup I threw together for a giggle that will eventually go into the Mozart TX system when I finally get well enough to get at it )

I have put it onto an old HP Laptop and it works very well on that, however, I absolutely hate the fact that its gone way further over the the Win 8 style of doing things, an I am not a fan.

The way its looking, I think I will be sticking with Win 8.1 and to be honest, I am still seriously considering going back to 7 because visually, that is by far the best looking Windows version there is. In fact, from what I have seen so far, I thik Vista is a bit more apealing to be honest, and for kicks, I think I will go back to that anyway.

ive done all that now but my win8 machine still takes ages to go past the login screen now. seems to be trying to sync with the store even though i havent downloaded any metro apps in months. doesnt seem to be updating any either.

anyone else find file explorer is slow in win10 like win8? i do have quite a few devices around the house and shares and NAS etc but win7 was always really quick, even on a crappy old netbook (with same shares etc).
