is there any way to remove the search box from the start menu?

Another annoyance is that the start menu can not be closed by clicking off it, well by clicking the taskbar. To close it you have to reclick the start menu. I hate how the search box goes over the taskbar, so ugly.

Best thing is to wait and see what the official version looks like,then decide if you prefer one of the Win10 third party Start menus.

No point being too critical of earlier builds of Win10.
 
Cheers, I'll have a look. I wondered what they'd done having taken them off Digital River.

I've got Volume License and MSDN access via work so I usually download the updated images from there. Not an option for most people though. ;)

People on here seem to forget that most people don't regularly reformat their machines. I expect most PCs are running the original OE installation. Windows Update is how these people will get W10.
 
I'm running 10056, did a clean install via a ISO
10056.0.150405-1348.FBL_IMPRESSIVE_CLIENTENTERPRISE_VOL_X64FRE_EN-US

Not sure if this has been covered before, sorry if it has, however hear goes.

I am running Window 10 on a Spare rig that I built up, Basically an E6500 running at circa 3GHz with 4gb memory. So, basically I am only using Windows 10 as an occasional play thing, nothing more. I've just installed 10056. 10041 to 10049 went ti*s up during an update.

I would love to duel boot via a second Samsung SSD on main PC and really use Windows 10 on a daily basis as my main operating system, this would be used for Games, Internet Browsing, basically general use. This way, if any issues crop up (and yes they always find me) I can simply revert back to Windows 8.1 within seconds. All my data, documents, music, photos are installed on additional SSD's.

But here's the problem, programs that I use such as Microsoft Office 2010 Pro etc are paid for and installed legally on my main PC running Windows 8.1 Pro. So I am NOT able to test these on Windows 10. I would swop the likes of Office over to Windows 10 if it was 100%, but for security/safety, I currently feel I need to keep it installed on my Windows 8.1 installation.

Here's a funny one, had a spare laptop land on my desk yesterday, found a spare 64Gb SSD in my drawer and stuck Win10.100.49 on it, all was well.
The one of the guys here was having issues with his Mac, so I put the SSD, as it was spare, into his Mac to install Yosemite on it and run some tests on his Mac, I got called away to do something else, and when I got back to the Mac it had booted to Windows 10...

Made me laugh anyways..

I'm sure if you want a full win 10 stand alone install you'll be able to buy one...............................

seems a bit unfair to those of us who have win8 license but its tied to the machine. i.e. i have a win8 home prem tablet. the SN must be in the UEFI partition or something as i dont have any license info. i much prefer a clean install.
