Windows 10

lol unbelievable M$ completely neglects it primary market by disabling the use of applications from the start menu. Its like a big FU from the guys at microsoft towards their 20 year old market. Its like, hey why not try this cheap app and abandon 20 years of applications?

Why even release a build where applications do not work from the start menu, this is obviously some subtle BS from M$. This is what they think is the future of windows, no applications, only cheap and rubbish apps.

There really are some ungrateful kinds around.....

It's mega easy to see why they did that with apps from start menu... it's called testing! try something to see how it performs or remove something to see who needs it, who'll miss it...

Microsoft are behind Apple and Google on the side of things but still dominate the pc market, therefore it's only a matter of time for people to start writing their apps for windows as well, it just needs to be more viable for everyone... I mean why write and app for windows where only 1-5% of people will buy/use it?

With Apple or Google you can write any old tat as an app and thousands will take a chance with it, as they have the majority marker share...

It's a bug groen. Not a feature. And if you don't like the buggy nature of running ******* pre-release software then don't ******* run it!!!

And if at the end of all this Win10 comes out and isn't your cup of tea, then don't use it. There are many fantastic Linux distros around now. And it's not as though Win7 is going to disappear straight away. Hell, you could even take leave of your senses and buy into the Cult Of Macintosh™!

Lol. I love how you mention linux as a sensible alternative to windows but mac is a cult.
Its about time people started to see tnings as they really are!

Plus, I have to be honest, but I too am simply not liking the fact thst 10 seems to be hellbent on forcing tablet visuals onto the desktop.
Even sadder is that windows tablets are bloody awful visually compared to android, and all i see is that windows will fail yet again at this release and so will make it a trio of vista, 8, and now 10.
I myself use 8.1 but i have zero access to the Win8 apps nor do i intend on using them, and absolutely win 10 forces them onto you because all the settings are now done through them.
No thanks, the new release is out now and so thats the last time i will waste my time downlosding it and if there is nothing significant in there, then I will stay with Vista on my gaming laptop purely as a mission to continue to be a plonker and stage a sit-in on my own in costa until the end...of my cuppa then i will go home and sulk.

You think 10 will fail because settings are now done through simplified screens? Really? And you are complaining about downloading Pre release versions?

I mean...that's just....yeah.

No, I am thinking that Windows 8 failed for this very reason, and Windows 10 is even more so...
Many people here, seem to love Windows 8, but internationally, and especially in the business market, Windows 8 flopped massively, it is known as Vista Mk2 and Windows 10 is hurtling down the same path that Windows 8 has.

I have always had a play with pre-release versions and sure, they never end up as what you expect, but Win 10 is going further and further in one direction, i seriously doubt that it will suddenly make a huge U-Turn now, even if I do hope it does.

Bit late to the party here. Do we know yet if the upgrade from Windows 7 will preserve user data and installed Applications? If yes, how does the upgrade deal with display drivers etc? Does it try to install newer ones if they are available or keep the ones you have?

So stop using the tech preview if you aren't willing to keep putting in reports to Microsoft about how you want it to work. After all, according to you 8 has flopped and 10 will flop because desktop users are being alienated by a tablet-centric interface. So surely you aren't alone if that's the case. And surely if you all rose up as one and kept posting feedback to Microsoft saying that you were unhappy with the direction 10 was headed then they'd have to listen, right? I mean, they're in the business of selling operating systems. Can't do that if you've turned off most of your user base. Right?

Or hey, just carry on whinging on an internet forum. Because that's far more useful.

:p:D

Windows 10 for tablets is still looking like a complete backwards step.

This new update was meant to be more tablet optimized, it's just as terrible as before.

I just use it in desktop mode on my S3.

Was hoping they'd have the Xbox One game streaming by now too :(.

The lack of launching stuff from start is a hilarious bug though.

"no apps, only cheap and rubbish apps"???

also M$?! Come on it's 2015! Grow up

I made an image for you to explain the difference between an app and a 20 year old application.

I completely aware that it is beta software and some bugs might be there. That does not mean we can not point out what we don't like about the current build. They may very well fix it. They have had many builds between this one and the one they decided to make public, many probably did not have this problem. I am just pointing out that it was kind of funny that they decided to make public a build that had this problem.

But you weren't complaining about it as a bug, were you? You were moaning as if this was a feature that Microsoft had put in to force people onto Modern Apps:

Not every change is a bug though. It looks like they may have rewrriten or done a big change to the start menu as they have now added an animation every time you open the start menu and the taskbar itself has a different look to it. Maybe they just have not gotten around to implementing the application support yet. I was just saying that it is a bit of a strange problem/bug to allow in to a public test. As there was previous builds between 10049 and 10061 that was leaked that i don't think had this problem but were not released on the main release channel.

I think preferred the power on the top right than above the all apps. See not a big deal to point out opinion about the different ui changes they are making.

Also the colour preference now changes the background of all the app icons. I think that is better than how it was before.

Also foobar is not affected by the minimize bug.

What have they added for tablets so far, and what's missing?

I've not used W10 in tablet mode, or really seen it, so interesting to know what's going on. I must admit that since getting my HP Stream 7 the tablet features of W8 make a lot more sense. Its still crippled by the lack of Modern UI apps though.

I'd suggest try using it.
The tablet start menu on windows 10 is just poor, by default it just looks completely dysfunctional.

Swiping in and getting that white bar just feels off compared to the charms stuff.

I'll use Windows 10, but I preferred 8 soo much more on the tablet.

I downloaded the W10 iso to install on an Acer Revo R3610 that I use to educate my TV, no resolution would fill the screen, it always had a black border all the way around, may have just needed drivers, I'll give it another go when I have some time spare.

I might try it on my main PC, I could swap the SSD for a spare 2.5" HDD so it's easy to swap back whenever I need to, if everything goes to plan I'll make an image of the SSD so I can format it and install to that, then I can still go back to my current setup, it'll just take a bit longer!
