Windows 10

I wish that when you clicked Apps in the start menu the list filled the whole space that the Start menu takes up (I.e. goes across all the tiles too), rather than just scrolling up. Its really frustrating having a massive screen and then having to scroll through my apps in a list that only shows about 10 at a time!

This is why I prefer the start screen over the start menu, but all the people who cried like babies because they can't hamdle change have ruined it for everyone!

In all seriousness though, I actually quite like how the start menu is on 10, except for the all apps part. That really does seem like quite an oversight, though it might just be another pending feature, as the start menu has been changing a bit with each new build.

I don't mind the new start menu, I just dislike the way the old style applications have been neglected in favour of the modern apps. Where all the modern apps are quite useless. I even took a second look yesterday and not one is of any interest to me. I thought maybe the weather app would be worth pinning, but turns out it is realy slow and i can look up the weather in my normal browser about 10 times faster than messing around with a fullscreen weather app. The previous build start menu they had the option to make it full screen. Seems like they have removed that now.

Has anyone got the start menu to work yet without being realy slow or having problems with the tiles? i tried new profile didn't fix it.

I installed it as a VM a few days back. No start menu seems to be a common problem. And there I was thinking people complained about windows 8 lol

Does file explorer take a few seconds for anyone else to come up? On an SSD and everything else pops up almost immediately but that always takes ages. Even slower then W7 on a mechanical drive.

I have something similar, after i log on with a password it goes to desktop fast but it takes a few seconds for the startup sound to come and to finish startup, should it finish while it waits for you to log in? should be instant on a SSD

Aye, it's really weird. it should be instant but it isn't, no idea what's causing it. It's quicker to open up a folder on the desktop than to wait for it to load up

argrh, stupid machin is still randowly freezing, seem especially bad when the machine is doing nothing. i suspect its cack gpu related as if i just retast button the thing the monitor still resuses to came back to life. i have to hard power the machine down then itll boot back up.

if anyone has any input that might help i would be immensely gratefull. really cant be arsed doing a windows wipe and reinstall

Can't imagine it'll be noticeably quicker. Do you have an SSD? That would make a massive difference to responsiveness - did to my old Q9550 machine.

like windows 8.1?

No, just the area the Start Menu takes up when opened, which for me is about 1/4 of the screen.

I have an aging Pc (Qx9650, 4Gb Ram) running W7.

Do you think Win 10 is going to run fine on this hardware? Im hoping for an improvement.

I've got a Q6600 and 4GB RAM. W10 is as responsive as W7 ever was, but it does certainly startup and shutdown a lot quicker.

sounds the same as mine, I have app tiles showing don the middle of the screen only.

when you open side bar for all apps the app tiles shift over to the left...

I want the start screen like windows 8.1 but with vertical and horizontal scrolling.

Well as its an ISO I can do a fresh install and this build has the new icons as well as Windows hello, it would be nice if somebody with a finger print reader or Intel real sense camera could test it.

EDIT: Ok so I have just done a clean install under Hyper-V as per previous builds and this one seems so much quicker, the new icons are much more Windows 7 as well which will please some and I find I prefer them over the high contrast looking ones from previous builds.
