Windows 10

I might well try this latest build as a daily driver- as it does seem pretty stable. Talking about build 10122 btw.Have now installed most of my software except for who crashed which it seems is not compatible and refuses to open once installed.

Well i decided to rebuild from scratch using 10125, seems a lot better now, but i haven't installed office 2013 yet and we'll see if the big low res icons come back.

Learnt my lesson now, no point upgrading to the latest build via WU, it always screws your PC up, always better to to wipe and build from scratch.

On the plus side for 10125, the icons are much MUCH better now, i don't feel the need to replace them anymore. Only the recycle bin on the desktop still seems rubbish (Bit not as bad as before)

Been using 10074 exclusively since it came out on my new build. Only issues I have is cannot remove outlook from inbuilt email and motherboard specific apps dont work. Can i update without losing everything?

Is the free upgrade from Win 7 to Win 10 only for a limited time? It's what I heard but I'm not sure.

I usually reinstall my OS once or twice a year. If I reinstall my OS a couple of years later, I assume I won't be able to upgrade to Win 10?

This whole free upgrade wording is really confusing people.

You should instead think of it as "Buy a Windows 10 upgrade license for £0".

tbh i don't think MS will give new keys out when upgrading..

win7/8/8/1 keys will be accepted when upgrading via windows update, but they may not if using windows 10 media... like windows 8.1 when it first came out u was unable to officially install windows 8.1 (using the 8.1 media) with a windows 8 key..

hopefully MS won't do that

How did the upgrades for Windows 8 that you could get for £25 as a pre order work? I'm pretty certain that's what we will get with W10.

if i remember right u bought it though MS site..

but with windows 10 it'll just appear in windows update as just like a normal update so it must accept win7/8/8/1 keys

After a year the same process will still continue but it will have a price, so I wouldn't be surprised if its delivered through the same method as the Windows 8 upgrade.

I've clean installed Windows 7 and Vista upgrades countless times so I'm hoping W10 will continue that trend.

but MS already said the free upgrade will be delivered via windows update

Yes, but like with the Insider program for W10 Previews you probably have to download or do something to get the Update to appear in Windows Update.

It won't 'just download' or that's going to cause havoc, lol.

for W10 Previews it may just appear Windows Update then while installing it'll ask for your key (win7/8/8.1)
