Windows 10 is now move close to RTM.

Microsoft will trying to finalised code by end of June and hit retail on 29 July.

But newegg now have Windows 10 OEM on pre-order with release date 31 July.

31st of august not July and really doesn't mean a lot.

As I've said several times, the chance of it going to release to manufacture in June then retail by end of July is pretty much zero. It gives OEMs no time to finalise devices, install w10 and ship devices from china to the shops.

Downloaded 10130 through Windows Update on 10122, rebooted and now keeps crashing within moments of the blue Windows symbol. :(

Going to take a stab in the dark that I can cut/paste the files in $Windows~BT onto bootable USB, wipe the old 10122 partition, then install 10130 from the USB after rebooting.

should have read my post, i'm going to give it a few builds before rebuilding, download via WU always seems to completely screw up windows 10

Opps my mistake, was too tired to not noticed it. Now corrected.

It is possible be RTM in end June then retail by end of July or RTM in mid July then retail by end of August. If you looked back on Windows 8.1 Update 1 it was signed off RTM on 21 Feb 2014 and released to OEMs immediately, it gave OEMs time to finalised devices, installed Windows 8.1 with Update 1 and shipped devices from china to the shops in time for 8 April retail launch as well as download too. That a total of 46 days, really amazing achievable for OEMs but very disappointed Microsoft decided to put ISO download on hold for TechNet subscribers until April, thankfully they managed to get leak very early.

To me, I don't have to wait until end of July or August to download, I will get it hours or days after it hit RTM just like it did with Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1 and 8.1 with Update 1.

Looking at the current prices of 8.1, those rumoured prices seem about right.

No news of any discount pre orders yet though.

If you think about it though, they have to release W10 cheaper than 7 or 8.1 is currently selling at, otherwise everyone will just buy the older OS and take the free upgrade.

Some other places are saying they are placeholder prices and dates instead of the official release info.

I fear if its true, its too soon or things might get rushed.

Definitely not placeholder prices, it has pre-order prices where people can click it to pre-order it. Retailers had GTA V pre-order price up months before release but never had placeholder price.

prices as been leaked

w10 home oem 109.99$
w10 pro oem 149.99$

that retailer saying 31th august...

not sure it's accurate or not, so don't get at me. im just sharing it :).

oh they had better not, tbh id be really surprised if they did too given they are making it a free upgrade to 7 and 8 i got the impression ms want to get as many people as possible onto 10 so they can sell stuff in their app store.

Well the cut/paste to USB did not work.

So I downloaded a standalone 10130 ISO, placed it on bootable USB pen via Windows 7 USB download tool.

Getting reboots in the same area before installation begins, on the Windows logo screen.

It doesn't help that I've misplaced my other USB pen, in case there is an issue with this one (but 10074 installed ok from it and Windows Update 10122 worked fine).

8.1 was essentially a service pack, nothing like a fall windows release they'll want lots of devices in shops for release. Really the end of august is the earliest it will happen.

Definitely not placeholder prices, it has pre-order prices where people can click it to pre-order it. Retailers had GTA V pre-order price up months before release but never had placeholder price.

Means nothing, it even says prices will change and they'll honour a lower price and refund the difference. It is almost certainly a high priced place holder.

Anyone else have Explorer refresh issues?

IE, if I delete a folder within Windows Explorer, I have to press F5 for it the GUI to refresh, doesn't do it instantly..

What tiles do you guys actually have in the start menu? I've not bothered to even change them as I've got all the apps I use pinned to the task bar, and haven't really got anything I feel would be good as a tile.

Skeeter, that's how I've used Windows since Vista.

All I use Start for is a search bar for other programs that I rarely use.
