Windows 10

So how does that steam stream work? If I had a real low spec PC upstairs can I stream from my gaming rig and have the power of that coming through to the low spec PC? Sorry for the noob questions. What would I need to stream?

Yep. Exactly that. Your gaming PC runs the game, but the display and controls are sent over the network to another PC. Ive never had it work but others have.

All you need is a second machine capable of running Steam (Windows PC, or a SteamOS machine) and a decent, ideally wired network. Just enable In Home Streaming in Steam on yiur gaming PC and then sign into Steam on another machine on the same network and you will see your games library and just click Stream to play.

Upgrades always feel dirty.

Ive never applied an update (other than the Windows 10 Preview, and that only lasted about 3 hours), and thats even though all 4 of my Windows 7 keys are Upgrade keys :p

They have always just worked as clean installs. I don't actually think Ive ever bought a full Windows OS. My Vista keys were free from Uni (not that I actually used them) and my XP installs were... *cough*... :).

7QVT6...etc.

:D

Notification finally appeared after a bit of task scheduler manipulation and cmd...what a pain lol

For those running the latest build, have you found any major show stopping issues with it that you have had to roll back or has it been smooth sailing?

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

If you want to perform clean installation after a year you need to pay to get Windows 10 license. Free update will only be free for 12 months.

Hope this information helps and if you have any further queries related to Windows feel free to post on Microsoft Community.

There is no reason to have to format your computer to reinstall windows 10, There is a reset function that will let you keep the files you selected, but you have to reinstall all your programs and apps again.

All you got to do to reinstall windows and click on settings, then update & security, then click on Recovery.

FileDownloadHandler.ashx

Under Reset this PC, click on Get started, and you can select files you want to keep or remove and it will reinstall windows 10 for you

I think this is a non issue tbh, I highly doubt they will make people pay after giving it for free. They are on a roll and building marketshare, I highly doubt they want to tarnish that

That only works if you can actually boot into Windows. What about a failed HDD or other startup issues?

tbh I am 100% counting on Microsoft registering the 7/8/8.1 keys from people who take the 1 year upgrade and enable them to be used on ISO's for w10.

A few people have mentioned it in this thread, and I can see it going this way.

If not, im sure there will be a solution so that upgraded users wont have to pay even if its 2/3/4 years after release.

Obviously, this is just my opinion and I have no facts to back this up

I've just completed taking system images of my windows installations and after I have the windows 10 upgrade or fresh install if they offer an ISO then I will take another system image so I'll have that to fall back on further on up the road.

There will have to be, as there are versions of the OS that are eligible for the free upgrade that can't use the in place Windows Update process.

In that thread theres another answer from Microsoft saying you will be able to install Windows 7 or 8.1 and then update to 10 after a year without having to pay.

So... Nothing but get more confusing MS comms. Your suggestion that MS will block half the world's PCs is rather ridiculous though.

i never said MS will block pcs..

also i only posted that link because u said the OP didn't post the link with the question

Sorry, confused you with the guy who originally posted it and claimed that everyone who took the update would no longer be able to use the 7 or 8 they upgraded from, and also be blocked from using 10 unless they paid for it, lol.

You use the Microsoft Bootable USB tool to create a Windows 10 USB recovery stick and repair/reinstall from that.

What happens if your Windows 7 or 8 hard drive dies now?

Same as any "expert" from forums or sales-helplines, should be ignored 95% of the time, they are monkeys they haven't got a clue what is actually happening and they should be saying we don't know, but they nearly always make stuff up.

Ms forum is particularly bad, are they actually MS employees. Or more like experts like on giffgaff.
