Windows 10

Can we download the ISO seperately then to load onto the usb?

Yes.

Although like W8 it will probably be a tool that creates a bootable USB stick. The screenshots of the W10 install all refer to USB media so it looks like we can finally ditch those CD drives in our machines :)

nobody knows yet,

we all hope yes

Yea we do. Wasn't it you who linked to that Microsoft upgrade matrix and confirmation of ISOs being downloadable on release :p

Thanks! USB installation seems to be the fastest option, at least for me.

Steal your syncord.

Same as any "expert" from forums or sales-helplines, should be ignored 95% of the time, they are monkeys they haven't got a clue what is actually happening and they should be saying we don't know, but they nearly always make stuff up.

Ms forum is particularly bad, are they actually MS employees. Or more like experts like on giffgaff.

Apple Geniuses. Wink wink nudge nudge.

Ah ok. Theres no reason MS won't release ISOs or a bootable USB tool considering they have done it for Windows 7, 8 and 8.1.

It was very late though for 8.1.

I remember being in contact with a Microsoft rep saying to reinstall windows 8.1 I had to

Install Win 8
Install All Updates to Win 8
Download Win 8.1
Install Win 8.1
Install Wind 8.1 updates

I mean it's a good job I had a week free everytime I wanted to reinstall Windows 8.1. Now it's much better though.

Well 'the internet' will have ISOs available anyway. The binaries aren't what you pay for, the product key is.

I borked my Stream 7 and had to resort to finding a torrent of Windows 8.1 with Bing as its not one of the versions Microsoft have released in the USB tool, and HP sent me the wrong recovery media.

it just depends if the windows 10 iso or full version media accepts the win7/8/8.1 keys..

when the 8.1 iso first released it didn't accept win 8 keys

Not sure if I can ask this but I've got a dead PC upstairs (acer aspire) as I think the HDD died as it just kept freezing and I couldn't reinstall windows vista which was built in.

I've got a copy of win7 pro on my gaming rig. I was wondering of I can replace the hdd and use the 32bit win7 disc to load into the Acer. Then but one of these keys from curtain sites to activate it? Them should o be able to upgrade to win10.

Obviously totally illegal

I wish people would engage their brain before typing.

Think about what your saying. Are you seriously suggesting that in July 2016 Microsoft are going to block almost every Windows 10 product key in the world, and simultaneously take away peoples 7 and 8.1 keys too? Really? With not even a hint of that in the heavily scrutinised terms and conditions of the upgrade?

If Microsoft were planning on holding the entire Windows computer market to ransom do you not think people would have spotted it?

Your panicking. You have read a statement designed for the masses (referinging to "devices") and then applied it to your minority situation and assumed a load of rubbish.

Ok I don't know how you got to those conclusions at all. You seem to be having trouble understanding the points I am making. I didn't suggest that they will block Win 10 keys in July 2016. I didn't suggest that Win 8 or 7 keys will be removed. In fact you will be able to roll back to Win 8 or 7 anytime and if your Win 10 is no longer useful that's what you would have to do unless you buy a new copy of Win 10.

I have been trying to place an interpretation on the wording used in the form of 'the lifetime of the PC or device'. Its not been clarified by MS but I don't believe my interpretation is off the wall. I am a lawyer by training I take account of specific wording, obviously you don't.

What minority situation? You mean someone who plans to change their motherboard and CPU inside the lifespan of the O/S I am using. Yep probably a minority in the overall user population but this is a forum for discussion of components and based around a company that specialises in selling PC components so I bet the majority round here will be changing their MOBO some time. Therefore the question of what happens to your 'free' copy of Win 10 when you change MOBO/CPU is pretty relevant I think to a great many people with whom I am attempting to converse.

Question for you. I upgrade to Win 10 in July 2015. In August 2016 I fit a new Skylake CPU and a 170 MOBO. Will my upgrade version of Win 10 still work? Will I be able to clean install it to my modified system and have it still work?

Well if its a manufactured pc and if it has the window sticker on, cant you download whatever version that the sticker says and then use the key from the sticker? Thats what I do with xp laptops/desktops with a buggered hdd. I haven't ever had todo that with a later version of windows yet, so I guess things could have changed.

Edit: But first I would check if its got a recovery partition if you can, then backup the whole hdd if it has using imaging software, incase the drive totally dies. Google how to restore your system to factory defaults........ If the drive dies, get a new drive and restore the backed up hard drive image you have made and restore to factory defaults.

Onedrive on win10, why doesn't it show all the folders like win8 and then tell you if they are off or the machine, mine is only showing the folders I have chosen to sync, is it a setting?

Sorry if this has been asked before but if I upgrade me retail copy of Windows 7 to 10 will I get a retail copy of windows 10 and not a version that is locked to my current PC?

Considering Win 8/8.1 isn't locked to one PC, it would be a pretty dirty move to lock it down like that.

I finally cracked. Decided to pull my SSD out of the darkness from under the bed and finally plug it in again. Just upgrading to W10 preview on it now to see what it's like for me. Is their a particular way to get the latest builds? (i.e. a link to go to or something?)

It seems to be upgrading to build 10074 ? Is that current?
