Windows 10

So just caution from them rather than any confirmation. The reset feature is a clean install in all but name anyway. All a Windows installation is is a C:\Windows folder and a pointer in your boot manager.

the problem is if it cant recover from a dvd etc via reset feature then it's useless if your hdd fails

In which case you use USB recovery media, which MS have already confirmed will be available!

Why is everyone so convinced Microsoft are trying to shaft them?

the USB recovery media would be just the tools just like within w8/8.1 u can make a USB recovery media which around 526MB~ it doesn't copy the windows setup files

No need to panic.

As it stands at the moment the Windows 7 USB burning tool works fine with the Windows 10 ISOs. I used it earlier today.

Which isn't what I said. Microsoft have confirmed you will be able to download Windows 10 installation media just like you can with 8.1. I wasn't talking about creating a recovery tool from within the OS.

I think Microsoft will let u download a proper full version (upgrade) into desktop as the ISO file for you to burn into dvd to keep it just in case if HDD or SSD died. But, I am not sure if Microsoft willing to give you a new product key as part of upgrade (so a new fresh installation might need a different product key) ?

The media will be USB not ISOs, and there are no new keys for upgrading to Windows 10. Any reinstallation will use your existing key, as most users won't even know they have one.

By association this means the W10 media they release will accept Windows 7 and 8.x keys.

link?

i can't find anything saying Microsoft have confirmed you will be able to download Windows 10 installation media for the free upgrade users..

yes maybe for people who bought it though ms store but that doesn't mean it'll accept w7/8/8.1 keys

Thats the missing link, but its there if you put all the pieces together.

- They have confirmed installation media will be available.
- They have confirmed free upgrade users will be able to clean install.
- They have confirmed no new keys for upgrade users.
- UEFI keys for most devices mean anyone who buys an upgrade after July 2016 will not get a new key either.

Therefore, users who buy the upgrade will be able to use the 7 or 8.x key they have now to clean install using MS provided media.

Which means we will too.

What happen if the customer want a full clean installation (not upgrade) ? I prefer to keep Windows 7. And use new full version Windows 10 on a spare SSD.

Only an upgrade is free. If you want a full Windows 10 install in addition to a full, not upgraded Windows 7 install you will need to buy a Windows 10 license.

Microsoft aren't giving away free copies of W10.

I like the direction they are going with it in general but yeah can't see myself jumping on it - its quite badly disjointed and the UI just looks terrible and is far more clunky to use compared to my very slightly tweaked Windows 7 and not having control of windows updates (though are ways around it) isn't something I'm a fan of.

Shame as I was really looking forward to the ability to scale the start menu/screen to any degree of functionality between fullscreen on mobile type devices to a minimal version with some widget type additions on the desktop.

Either Microsoft are being lazy in producing us with a good qual OS, or they are going down the one OS route for all devices, trying to save a few quid.

Yeah Im in the same boat as you Rroff, I hate the look and feel of win10 compared to win7.
