Windows 10

What operating system are you currently using?

I personally would take a clone of your current setup and then upgrade...if down the line you don't like 10 then just format your hard drive and use the clone you took to go back to your original OS.

I'm dual booting.

I don't see what the problem is, at some we all will HAVE to be on Windows 10. They are not going to keep Windows 7/8.1 supported like did with XP for so long/

So people, stop fussing and take the free upgrade soon as it comes along:) (for the people who still fear new Windows OS's)

Sorry I'm sure it's been said a lot already but as far as I can see, this free upgrade only lasts a year. After the year are we expected to pay full price for the OS?

Edit: realised I misread the blurb, it have to install it within a year to get the free upgrade.

Microsoft publish the dates way in advance : http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows/lifecycle

I've been dual booting since XP. 8 was the upgrade from XP but before that I kept Vista then I was triple booting. XP, Vista and 7. Then for many years now just dual booting between 7 and 8.

I apologise if this has been asked earlier in the thread

I have 2 Windows 8.1 Pro upgrade licences- thus making those licences effectively full retail

if I upgrade those to 10 are they full licences - ie can be transferred to any pc ?

although I'm not sure "OEM" exists anymore anyway ?

what happens to the old Windows 7 licences ? (full retail Home ones) - if you installed one of those onto a pc would they get free update to windows 10 ? do they link upgraded licences etc etc ? or do I may as well bin those now ?

from what i've read when windows 10 is released it won't be complete as somethings will be incomplete or missing, issues etc. they'll be updating it regular

http://www.computerworld.com/articl.../windows-10-release-date-download-itbwcw.html

i'm guessing MS just wants it released soon as posable

 Got what early? Win10 preview has been available to the public for months.

I also see that insider program gives you the option to try Office 16 now.

Upgrades have no OEM or Retail designation, they inherit the licenses from the base version that was upgraded. So as they were originally Windows 7 Retail they will become Windows 10 retail.

I am having doubts about reserving this. I am thinking I should wait for a bit to see what people are thinking of it.

I want to know more about their equivalent of WMC and whether I will need to (or can) reinstall my copy of Office 2007, Dreamweaver and Photoshop CS5.1. Or whether it'll be okay to continue on with my subscription of NOD32.

I don't mind having to reinstall Steam and can back up all of my games.

I am looking on the official help page but was wondering if anyone here had any answers?

Thanks.
