Windows 10

^ as above activate by phone. I've had the same message in two Windows 8 PCs but both activated fine by phone.

I've tried running slui.exe but it doesn't give me any options regarding phone activation, it just tells me to enter my product key and nothing further happens. I'm just going to give MS customer support a ring tomorrow to get it sorted.

Usually you have to disconnect from the Internet to get phone activation to show up.

since when? Are you not getting confused in activating your dodgy Adobe products :p

1) Press Windows key + R, then type: slui.exe 4
2) Next press the 'ENTER' key
3) Select your 'Country' from the list.
4) Choose the 'Phone Activation' option.
5) Stay on the phone (do not select/press any options) and wait for a person to help you with activation.

Worked for me when I changed my mobo and was most certainly connected to the net.

This question might have been answered in the pages before but that's 182 of them and life is short, if you know what I mean.

What is the best way to upgrade to win 10 ? Is it possible to do a clean install from the 1st time? Is there going to be a ISO file I can download or something ?

I am not a big fan of "upgrading" though the actual OS .. It doesn't feel right/ or does it ?

Is anyone running Win10 on a Z68 motherboard?

I am on an ASUS P8Z68-V GEN3 motherboard and the official website has no drivers at all for Win 10, only up to 8.1. It is also not on this list of ASUS motherboards ready for Win 10. My Xonar D1 sound card also has no drivers for Win 10.

Have you tried Intel's own website for motherboard drivers, e.g. chipset and storage? Most of these will likely be installed by Windows 10 anyway.

I'm using the Windows 8 driver for my Xonar DGX without any issues in build 10240.

Yes, this question has been answered before, litterally 5 posts before yours!

The most bizarre thing is happening. I've got Windows 8.1 Pro with WMC activated and running on my old SSD and I tried the phone activation method you suggested above - I get the menu asking me to select a country. When I try it on the non-activated Windows 8.1 Pro on my new SSD absolutely nothing happens after entering the command. I tried doing it via command prompt running as admin and the same outcome, nothing happens.

I'm going to have to call MS tomorrow. I can only think that the key I'm attempting to use isn't the key that MS gave me when I upgraded from 7 to 8 and is in fact the WMC key. I know this situation is partly my own fault for losing my copy of Windows 7 and not keeping or printing a copy of the email MS sent me when I upgraded to 8, but I wasn't aware doing a clean install would be such a nightmare.

This is a version of windows that should give me the windows 10 update right...

My dad is using the home premium 64bit version aswell and I got the update to appear on his but no matter what I try on mine its not coming up.

hmmmm weird...I ran that CMD batch file about 8 times and on the 8th time it took three times as long to run and then the windows 10 icon finally appeared. I wonder why it didn't work the other times I ran it.

To top it off the Win 10 upgrade notification has not appeared on my genuine Win 7 system, so all this has me worried my system is not compatible with Win 10 somehow :(

I got the notification, same mobo. I'd imagine we'll be ok. Find out on Wednesday!

On the box it says WinVista HmPrem-Win 7 HmPrem UPG Media OEM Software.

Surely thats fine isnt it as its Windows 7 Home Premium?

i have windows 7 home premium 64 bit as well, the script worked for me as did a clean install of W7 and didn't get the icon appear, once ran i waited a few seconds and it appeared, reserved my copy.

is the PC on a domain? does it have SP1 installed? as if its on a domain it will not get the update and if its not on SP1 again it will not either.

the update is for W 7 SP1 and 8.1, anything lower (W8 or W7 non SP1) will need to update first to be entitled to the update

Whenever I've reinstalled windows 7 which is a genuine copy I have to do phone activation. Some reason the option only shows when I have no Internet connection.

yeah it finally worked after I ran the script about 8 times.. I wonder why it didn't work the first time I ran it... It seemed to end quicker the first 7 times then on the 8th it took ages and finally the icon showed up.

Strange problem here.

Build 10240

When I go into Network Sharing Center, right click a connection, Properties. It crashes Explorer and it quickly reloads again.

Major problem for me as I need to add a VPN connection and then edit the advanced properties!

If you use the action centre in the notification tray you can add a VPN in there by clicking on VPN

I honestly thought I was alone

Oh. Well. That clearly solves the concern of the window crashing every time you need to do something network related. Smashing.
