What happens to retail versions of pervious installations? I have reinstalled my retail Win7 many times due to hardware changes, when I upgrade will I loose this ability? Also will I be able to, if I do not like Win10, downgrade to Win7 again afterwards by using my Win7 key?

retail is fine, can be moved from any PC you want and do any hardware upgrades, the hardware change only effects OEM versions of windows.

Anyone tried running the setup.exe from within the downloaded $Windows.~BT folder ?

The version of the downloaded update files is "10.0.10240.16384.0|9|en-GB"

this is what you get when you click the setup.exe

and this is what you get when you click install now lol

I have got my hands on a Win8.1 key
However, do I have to install Win8.1 and then upgrade to Win10 or can I straight install Win10 with this Win8.1 key?

maybe I should put the 10240 .wim in there and see what happens lol

Nope won't work... you need the physical file.... maybe the ESD 10240 will be install.wim and it's hidden somewhere else :) :)

PS - http://www.intowindows.com/how-to-easily-convert-install-esd-to-install-wim/ ;)

You can read the version from the files it's -

Same as latest insider build I believe.... You could try inserting the .Wim file from the insider and seeing what happens. I will wait for it to update itself...:)

It is the insider build.... I'm on it.
