Windows 10

Apologies if this has already been asked, but is there any way to disable the automatic download and installation of Nvidia Drivers through the windows 10 updater? Fine with everything else updating, but certainly the latest Nvidia driver has issues in a couple of games I play.

Everytime I rollback the driver, Windows just downloads and installs over it again...

Hey guys, any ideas as to why Cortana doesnt work, just complains its not available in region, even though its all set to UK and even when i change it to US it says i cant speak your language lol not very smart this Cortana is it.

I think you need to have language pack, keyboard and region all set to UK - if one isn't as default then it doesn't work

I think you have to go to system then advanced system settings and the hardware tab. It's under device installation settings.

Someone might want to clarify though!

I had fun trying this last night.

If I opted to "move" the directory to another drive and move the files within, it duplicated it. As this is a fresh install I just decided to create those directories on the other drive and put those paths as the target directory. I think the move function might be broken.

Ok so I have just done this properly by creating the directories then changing the location of the corresponding personal folder on C drive.

Even after doing this it does still duplicates it in the sidebar under 'This PC' lol.

Might be a good idea to have a poll on this thread to see if anyone has had a straightforward install or had issues etc etc?

The upgrade worked fine on 3 of my machines, however the 4th didnt work correctly (dual monitor not detected) - this was down to the gfx card being too old (Geforce 7) to have a recent Nvidia driver..

I downgraded back to windows 7 using the downgrade button in windows - it worked fine.

I'm getting an odd issue with Windows 10 not remembering positioning of icons/notification area settings etc. Any ideas? May do a reload later, but trying to fix some of these issues first anyway.

Need some help guys, just upgraded to W10, and so far everything works...except one thing. In 3DMark Firestrike the GPU runs at a constant 880MHz no matter what i do.
Anyone seen that bug?

Just saw that elsewhere on teh interwebs, gonna try a rollback now and will let you know if it works :)

Just tried it, as soon as windows loaded and I went to check the updates, I instantly saw Nvidia drivers downloading and then had the screen flashes as they were installed... ffs

Yeah seems to be the case. What is frustrating is that no-one at Microsoft thought to update the help page for error code 80240020 so it actually tells you that you are in a queue and it will work once you're front of the line.

Thing is, if that was really the case, why is MS support telling people to use the install tool rather than just stating, " it's not your turn to activate yet ... wait your turn in the queue".

As it stands, I now have about 20 failed install messages in my Windows update history ... guess I'm going to have to give the install tool a go now.

By the way, for those who did manage to install through Windows update, did you reserve your copy of Windows 10 very early on, or through the Insider programme ? I'm just wondering if anyone who wasn't in beta etc has managed to install through Windows Update ...

Maybe try turning off windows updates as well just to see? I know some other people had the exact same issue but I can't remember what the fix was exactly!

Hmm, is it actually creating a duplicate of the directory? Or is it just somehow mirroring it? As my directories were blank I couldn't really tell. Wondering if you could delete it if it duplicates - might be worth testing out on a new directory with some random files in first :D

I noticed that on mine as well, everything is set up to the UK, but it's currently disabled and says not available in your location. Not sure if I plan on using Cortana, so i've disabled the search bar.

Just checked this morning and it finally gave me the ok to upgrade my low spec pc, so currently doing that now. All good so far, via the update tool just waiting for the install to complete.

Jus attempted to upgrade the old rig to 10 again, yesterday it stalled at 24% today at 20%? Has anyone else had this issue?

It worked fine first go on my main rig yesterday so a bit confused.

Your speech is most likely set to US

My guess is your default install language was US? You need to go to Time and language in settings > Region and Language > Install the UK pack. Keyboard / Speech / Handwriting.

Restart

Go to Time / language and > speech change it to UK (it will now be an option.)

She should now work for you.
